So... what is the most pointless class you've ever had to take in college?

Last year I had to take Fortran. Yep, fortran. Chances are you haven't heard of it; it was phased out of use as a programming language IN THE NINETEEN FIFITES!!!

Talked to a man who mentored for a high school club of mine. He said it was way outdated when he took it in college in 1972. Their reasoning for us having to take it? So we understand how programming works and the method behind the machines we use.

Why not let us take C or Java? And this college of engineering got ranked 22 in the world by a panel of hundreds of international educators... guess the educators remembered fortran from the black and white photo days, thought it was cool >.<

How about Freshman seminar? It was a class with a letter grade AND it didn't count toward the gpa. It was pointless because I didn't learn anything about the school. The advisor only talked about maintaining good standing is a 2.0gpa, define P/NC, F, a D counts toward the University as passing, but not your major, give us a work sheet on how to calculate gpa, when it's done automatically for you in the Degree Progress Report, I felt like a total idiot spending the time doing that at the end of the first semester.

Man, I can learn these by asking fellow soompiers here and at least get a post count. But a pointless class with no grade count toward my gpa?

Freshman seminar was pointless for me. We went to a museum?? It was like an elementary field trip day and I did not enjoy it.

intro to poetry. >< i don't understand why engineers have to be "well-rounded"... i'm not going to save the world by analyzing yeats' poetry. D:

but then i guess it all depends on what's important to you. me, i'd much rather be studying biomechanics or bioreaction design. ^^

I mean who the hell doesn't know how to use a computer.
And I don't mean learning all the detailed stuff but things like
learning what a folder is and an icon.

Oh yeah the best was learning what a megabyte was. >.>

ouch, that's a really baby class. The computer science 101 in my school they teach us Java script...and how to write/run a script.

well, there hasn't been a pointless class I have to take, but I don't like having "general requirements" in order to graduate. Yeah, i guess it'll help with the being a more well-rounded person...but it's hard to take all the classes you need for your major and fulfill the general requirement credits

i guess that's why the school is so clannish.. we have a subject about being a proud student of the college -.-

repeating the words PREMISE and CONCLUSION over and over and over agian.. i ususally leave class feelign stupider than when i walked in...

We had to take this useless class called Practice of Mgmt Skills. The name sounds okay but in fact we do nothing at all during lesson but keep watching BORING history videos. Like wth..? What has history got to do with mgmt?

And it's 3 hours long of history video watching. omg.

oh yeah the library, I forgot to explain. We had this librarian coming in for freshman seminar to teach us HOW to use the internet to do Research......do we look look like first graders there? That was totally unnecessary. And she went around to check each of us in that computer lab to see if we know how to access the school library's link etc......

SAME, but it's philosophy 201 here. God, that class was brutal. I ended up dropping it because I didn't attend the last half of the course so I would've bombed the final >____> Waste of my money... oh well.
