I've recently started playing Go with a boy at school and today for the first time we played online on Yahoo! Games!

It's so much fun!

I was wondering who else here plays Go? Maybe we can play each other sometime? =)

Is this the game where you place black and white pieces on a board trying to get five in a row, you know, the Asian connect four? If so, then yea, it's fun. But if people take it to seriously, like chess, and take forever to move, it gets boring fast.
I won't bother since I won't read the rules and they won't accommodate.

Haha, after watching Hikaru no Go, I was sooooo amazed by this game and me & my brother bought a board to play. But once we realized how boring it was and there was no exciting "HAHA-I GOT YOU NOW-YOU DIE NOW, VILLAIN!"-action and intense, smashing sounds when you put the piece down, we stopped playing. sad.gif

Go is just one of those games.

In order to really get the Hikaru no Go level of play you pretty much have to get good enough to appreciate what the heck is going on. I mean, you can't have masterful counterattacks if you don't even know when they happen. wink.gif

Go is way too hard for me. I can't see patterns, I can't think 50 steps ahead, my math sucks so I can't count territory for every variation.
Listened to some lectures from former canadian high-school national champion (jeffrey fung anyone?), but I still sux. Takes a lot of dedication really.

Btw, yahoo go sucks, it's full of immature players that kick you or just afk forever if they're losing. You're never going to get better that way.
You'd be better off playing on KGS, where they actually HOLD teaching games and regular lectures + analysis.

PS: hikaru no go sucks.

No, you've just described Gomoku.

Go certainly looks very interesting, but it'll be some time before I can sit down and try it out.

The OP is pretty good at go.
More people should be playing.

Join KGS servers.

http://www.gokgs.com/

Players of all levels from 30 kyu to 7 dan (I don't think there are any professionals, but I may be wrong).
Teaching games are on at certain times of the day, and you can always find bots of various level to play against.

It CAN be a nice setting, especially for newbies that are interested but don't know where to start. If you've never heard of the game, nothing wrong with it they accept anyone.

Wow! You think I'm good!? lol

You're really great! (esp. compared to me)

But yes! Go is extremely fun! Especially when you learn all the rules. Actually finishing a game is amazing and interesting!

If anyone wants to play Go, I'd be happy to play with them!

By the way Shikabane Hime, I'll PM you soon about playing with my school mate.
