My class is doing a culture project and I did mine on Vietnam since I'm Vietnamese. I've been thinking of what to bring in because my other 2 partners are both American so they don't know much. And I can't seem to think of something that would appeal to my class. We thought of bringing in egg rolls but they originated from China.

So anyone know any Vietnamese desserts or candy that would appeal to the American taste?

There can't be any peanuts because there are people in my school that could stop breathing from just being near peanuts.

Pictures would and the name of the dessert/candy in English and Vietnamese would help a lot!

but if not just any suggestions.

[ps don't suggest anything that might have originated from a different country]

I tried one.
In plastic cups, there were almond jelly cubes with different fruits in it and colorful ribbony rice papery candy that looked like long thin crimped paper but you could eat it. i think it's very simple and easy to make.

Also the place I went to served almond cookies (didn't know those were considered Vietnamese)

Banana bread or cake it was like a pudding.

There was another banana dessert like a deep fried banana and a liquid banana pudding on the plate. This one might not be traditional?

The vietnamese name for that dessert is 'che ba mau' (translated: 3 colored drink).

the che ba mau, I actually don't think that it's a good idea. I know plenty of American's and other people who strongly does not like it. I don't come across many people liking it, well the people who never grew up with it.

As for my suggestion... This one is simple and easy, it just takes 24 hrs to make. Frozen Yogurt, I really don't know what it's exactly called and I really don't know the recipe for it, haha lol. But if you ask your mom, she would probably know. In vietnam, it's usually sold in a bag, and you just rip the corner off and suck on it. But here, we tend to make it in those baby cans.

those little cute bags of frozen yogurt are cute and good =D i've ate it before. its really easy to make. If i didn't remember wrong, you only need milk and sugar to make it. Cover it for a few hours and then bag it into small bags. Then put it in the freezer.

ALSO CAN TRY
Bananas In Coconut Milk
(Che Chuoi)
heres the link of how to make it. Its pretty good, my mom makes it sometimes and its pretty easy.

I've had something a few times--and can't remember the name of it, because it's been a long time--they're like sesame seed crepes--I used to be able to get them in Trader Joe's. They were really good. This is what they look like:
