I don't think I will be graduating within 4 years from graduating high school. It makes me feel like a loser.I care about what people think of me. I didn't do well on placements tests, moved, had to take online classes due to moving, still not completly sure what to major in. Does anyone else have this problem as well?

not exactly. You shouldn't feel bad.
I will probably be graduating in 5 years if I'm lucky. I'm on exchange for this SY so after I get back I'm going to have to work my ass off to graduate =/
I've been taking light course loads since I started college (13-14 credits a semester) which is probably why I'm slightly behind. I hadn't even started any of my major courses till right before my junior year.

a lot of people don't
so don't feel bad
i've had lots of classmates who was at their third year or almost graduated
they had to repeat first year because of some issues

just remember, it doesn't matter how long it would take .. just as long as you get there

Nope, don't think they do.

I'm taking a co-op program, so I will be graduating in 5 years. Other people might continue onto grad school or med school, so I think only half of university students maybe graduate in 4 years

Thanks guys I feel better. I just thought most people graduated on time.
I am still in Community College wanting to transfer though it is going
to take me 5 or 5 1/2 years to graduate. sad.gif
I guess all that matters is that I do graduate smile.gif like LovinBlackCoffee said.

don't feel bad about it. at least you get to go to school ^^;

i keep on moving schools as well. my parents worry that i may not finish school
within the timeframe they set up for me. but my grandparents say that as long as i finish
it doesn't matter how long it takes. after all, it gives me more training on what not to do when things happen.

I'm a semester behind in my Nursing program since I was so lazy my frosh year.. so I'll have been in college for 4 1/2 years by the time I graduate. I'm halfway through though! Two more years! yeeee

seriously...the people who graduate in 4 years work REALLY hard and take REALLY heavy loads to cram all that crap into 4 years. I also smell summer classes.

It's normal to take 5 years....for some 6. there's no big rush anyway. Do it in your own time and screw everyone else. it's not THEIR education and future.

Graduating in 4 years seems pretty rare. The only way to do that is to go into a field of study you like from the very beginning and then not fail any classes. Most people are unsure of what they want to do but even if they are sure it's challenging to take that many classes and do well in all of them - especially if there are outside stresses affecting your life.

It depends on your major. It's just that in general people graduate in four years....there's no specific year.....or age..

No, you definitely shouldn't feel that way.

College isn't about how fast you graduate from it rather it's the experience and preparing yourself for the next stage in your life.

Besides, some majors require more years than others so in reality, not everyone will graduate within four years.

And it has been reported that those who change their major aren't likely to graduate within four years and those numbers are rising rapidly due to students changing their major on average is rising.

I think you should relax and just enjoy the college experience -- it's only fair. smile.gif

I know plenty of people who don't, but yeah, the majority do.

That is true. To an extent.

People that get (large amounts) in loans are probably going to cry if they graduate in like, a long time.
Plus the fact that some families struggle just to put their kid through school, so you don't want to lag too much.

not true. The average honours program is designed so that if you take a 100% course load every year for four years, you'll get enough credits to graduate. That's why sometimes you'll see them referred to as 4-year programs. Co-op is usually a 5-year program, isn't it? to account for the co-op requirements.

Anyway, while I think that most people graduate within 4 years, I also know TONS of people who aren't going to finish in four years, for many different reasons. It's not really a big deal. I mean, five or ten years down the road, who really cares as long as you have that degree?

Are you a science or engineering major? If so, then don't worry about it. There are a lot of people the require an extra year because they change majors in the middle and end up needing different prerequistes. Liberal arts and humanities have less class requirements. Everyone I know who has a major in those are getting double or triple majors... and ever studying abroad! So unfair! I'm a science major, and I've taken summer school every single year, but I won't be able to have a minor unless I take 2 more summer school classes after my senior year. sad.gif
