Im dumping this question everywhere...
Anyone here know whats up with this?
I can run things from zips, but when I copy them out to say the desktop, it goes through the motions but never makes it to the desktop. I have the same problem when I copy things out from my Zen Micro and Pocket Pc.
This problem has existed since I installed windows, but has only gotten on my nerves since I lost quite a few files when I was moving things out of my pocket pc to my computer. (Note, move not copy so I lost my only copies of the document and dont have recovery, sigh...)

Interesting. That must be a pain the ass. What happens when you merely copy stuff (not extract or retrieve from a removable device)...uhh say from C: to your desktop? What about among partitions?

from a drive or partition to desktop it works just fine
it seems to just hate I guess shell extensions. Because all 3 of those use extra stuff to work and pretend to be part of My Computer like um Gmail drive.

Wait so its a problem when you try to extract from a zip? Cause you kinda threw me off with the "I copy things out from my Zen Micro and Pocket Pc"
Anyways, I don't see how that can be a shell extension problem. Hmm.
Try going into safe mode and doing those things. See if it works then.

All of those are similar tasks in the sence that windows doesnt store the contence like a folder. Zips are compressed and must be unzipped, pocket pc and zen micro stuff must be adapted to work with windows through drivers to pretend to be a folder (actually shows as a device, but thats besides the point).
Yes, the easiest to symptom understand example is zip extraction.
Open zip, select all, drag to desktop, watch it copy, but when you go to the desktop the files aren't there.
I CAN write normally to my desktop or any folder, just "special" stuff that doesn't work.
I figure if I fix this, the rest of my issues will be fixed.
