Corion Digital Lifestyles 42" 720p LCD HDTV - FA2B42323 for $500 - 15% off with paypal = $425

I've been looking for 32" monitors under $500, but I wasn't expecting find a monitor this big with a price this cheap? Is this just a really crappy monitor, or could I go with an extra 10 inches for only $499?

Would this screen be good for hi def gaming?

its cheap because
1. weak brand
2. Its resolution is 1366 x 768.

42" is a significant step up from 32".
if you're into gaming and willing to go for a 42" monitor, then look for full HD (1080P, not 720p), and 120hz with some kind of anti judder technology.
or, just go for a Plasma.

Not to mention it's primarily a TV. Don't confuse a HD TV with a real computer monitors. The standard resolution on a cheap 19" computer monitor is already practically that of 1080p and definitely better than the one you're looking at. A real 30" computer monitor is dramatically higher than any 1080P HD TV. I'm just saying this to make it clear that this "monitor" you are looking for is something you will be using from a distance (like a regular TV). You're not going to be able to use it as a regular monitor on your desk. With a 1080P you might possibly be able to but only to watch movies and/or play games. Even then a regular 30" monitor would destroy it. Text and still images (your regular computer desktop) would look like crap when used up close on your desk. Maybe you already know this but it wasn't evident in your post as you kept refering to it as a "monitor".

a 42" isn't something you'd usually put on your desk. it should be good for console gaming though, and maybe HTPC, if anyone does that anymore.

i didn't even know they had 1080p and 120hz capable screens nowadays, been locked away in one of the labs at uni this whole year.

looks like interlacing is on its last legs.
