After trying to get in the next part is surviving it.
It just seems like the chances are getting slimmer and slimmer of all those hardwork in those 4 years of high school. Anybody feel this way too?

My GPA is not bad, I do extracurricular, communities service, NHS, INTEL.
My SAT/ACT were
Yet, I feel that no matter what I'll do I might not even end up in the good ivy/research schools I want to go to, yet.
T^T. I tried.
Also, because of the economy and money issue.
Many people get into great/private/ivy schools but don't end up going b/c they don't have the $_$.
More people are likely to pick city or state colleges b/c it costs less.
Out of state is like at least DOUBLE or more of the tution. T_T I wanted to go out state, but...

also, money should never be an issue when deciding to go to a top tier school. either you are poor and the school will pay for you, or your family has enough money but they are not willing to spend it on your education.

Yea, it certainly seems that way. But, a while back C students got into University of Florida and now, they're rejecting some of the top students in the senior class.

College is already too expensive as is, and now they're ridiculously competitive.
I hope that a bachelor's degree means something once we get out of college.
Eeks I fear the competitiveness of med schools and dental schools in the future. ;_;

LOL. You'll see me at dental school in the future xD
Yup, true colleges are getting more competitive. Not really because of the amount of people applying to colleges, but rather the amount of people applying to the same colleges.

You're saying the same thing twice.
It's just because of the amount of people applying to colleges which ups the requirements in getting into University. Nowadays we have to demonstrate our involvement in the community, show our ECs, leadership potential, etc etc. including our high academic scores.

Demographics, we are the children of the late baby boomers (I'm guessing most peoples' parents were born 1955-1965), therefore since there were a lot of baby boomers, and a lot of baby boomers are having babies, more people are in the recent graduating classes.
Accessbility to test prepping is easier via internet which allows a wider range of people to be able to study through it.
More emphasis is placed on the need to go to college for well paying jobs (Whether it be true or not). Community colleges were started for war vetrans to get job skills quickly, now with diminishing blue collar jobs and growing white collar jobs, college is considered more and more of a necesity. Therefore kids who may not have applied to college before, will apply now.
Finally, the common application has made it easier for people to apply to more schools more quickly, even with much genuine interest.
With all these factors you get tougher admissions.
But in the end, if you work hard, life will be good (I think) ^^

i think it would be the opposite in a weak economy.
schooling costs money, and if people cannot afford it, less people will be available to attend school.
i know a few cases where students dropped for a year.
im sure tuition deters some people.
