Basically I turned on my other computer today and I get the msg that Windows can't start properly because it is missing some H:\Windows\system32\drivers\PCdrNt.sys file.

I've tried using the Hp recovery but 8% through copying the files, a window pops up saying they can't recover the file....system32. i click ok anyways and after it finished the recovery process, my computer failed to start up properly

I've tried using safemode, and last good configuration but the comp just won't let me because of the missing file

What do I do?? I don't have an Xp boot cd

I read online that for hp's it's built into some hidden partition?

*edit* I've even tried doing the destructive recovery.....setting back to factory condition....after recovery....rebooted comp....still didn't work

*edit* destructive recovery has successfully enabled me to start windows however, every time the computer starts up I still get the error msg and have to press F2 , then windows will start

that happened to me b4... mellow.gif I had to format my computer

as I understood about that file when i encountered the problem is that System 32 is one of the important files in Windows... and as we all know that Windows is an operating system that turns on/off the computer and uses a graphical user interface to ease the navigation through desktop icons... so when if one file is missing then the system won't operate/run properly... especially that file coz it stores lots of system tools, drivers and stuff.. correct me if I'm wrong.

and I think... I think that that file is related to the internet explorer or any browser you have.. I'm not sure tho..

some people touch that file... replace it or change it.. then they encounter that problem.. try to search for the file in your computer coz it might have been misplaced... but I'm not sure of you could do that since it won't start up..

I really don't know what's the solution for this problem.. sorry.. but to me was formating my comp..

You probably don't want to hear this, but most likely your hard drive is going out. It would explain the corruption and the missing files you are getting. The drive looks for a certain file... can't find it... and considers it missing.

If you can run the computer you can install speed fan and look at the SMART tab to check the status of the drive

Yes, HP by default makes it on the hidden or "recovery" part of the drive. They do let you use the burn recovery disk option to make a copy of it, or you can pay $20-30 to get the disks.
