... I made a mistake in the topic name
It must be: The Asian Way

So my problem is that I want to lose weight
And I have notice that most of the asians that live in asia are soo skinny.
I asked my mom and she said is because they eat other food then americans en europeans
They almost don't eat stuff like milk and bread (carbs)
And now during the winter break I really want to look slimmer, so the people in school will notice
I drink almost every day green tea, because I heard that that helps
But I really don't know what to eat for breakfast or lunch
So could y'all help me out ?? sweatingbullets.gif

And when school starts I really want to go throught with, what I called, The 'Asian' diet
So please post all your suggestion for what I could eat at school

Thanks biggrin.gif

What they usually do is eat low GI carbs like a lot of vegetables
along with not much rice and a little bit of meat, well that's HK style.
Aside from that there's not much to it. They do 3 small/medium sized meals
everyday. It'd be wiser to eat 6 small meals a day consisting mainly of veggies and meat,
and a little bit of rice. Aside from that most asians seem to be ectomorphs, meaning
they have super high metabolisms. You should also take into account that most
people in China are not that well off, so they don't eat that well.

Wtf. So many things are labeled "Asian" now. Asian fashion, Asian teeth, Asian hair... geez.

Well, most Asians there have food that contain very low sodium compared to their western counterparts so reduce your salt intake. They also exercise a lot instead of driving to places (i.e. biking, walking, etc.) so take up exercising too. And as the person above me, they eat very little and in very tiny portions.

lol a lot of asians are blessed with retarededly fast metabolism.

Just reduce your meal portions and eat frequently throughout the day. Eat heathily as well. Limit carbs. Increase protein and poly/monounsat. fats. Ummm and exercise at least 1 hour every other day to begin with (if that's too challenging then start with 30 min. and work your way up).

When i went to china over the summer, i ate the same amount as i do in the US but i lost some weight. The problem with our food in america is that it's too processed, and our food proportions are HUGE, alot of the stuff we eat is processed. Eat lots of veggies, lots of fruits, some meat and rice, the organics. etc.

Here are some of my family's beliefs in eating:
After every meal, go for a walk outside,
avoid sleeping after a meal.
When eating oily/greasy food, DON'T drink cold water
My family, in general, believes that drinking cold water is bad for you, and slows down your metabolism (don't know if it's true, it's just what they think)
Eat meals at appropriate times of the day, for example (Breakfast before 11, lunch before 4, dinner before 8) try sticking to these times everyday
You should eat less food at dinner. More food for breakfast
If your gonna skip a meal, skip dinner, but generally don't skip meals (don't know if this has to do with weight, but they force me to eat when i'm not hungry)
WATER IS GOOOD!! room temperature water, drink it!

hope this helps

as others have mentioned they do a LOT of exercise
rarely do they drive, and when they do, there is usually still a lengthy walk to the final destination
so if you want it to be a truly "asia diet" then there must be more then an hour of exercise per day...

i lost weight in HK while pigging out on Hagen Dazs icecream bars daily because of the monsterous amount of walking and lifting (my shopping bags and purse) i did daily.
goodluck!

ps. a good new haircut can probably get you the same attention =]

I'm pretty sure it's the opposite actually: the colder the water, the higher it raises your metabolism.

Hahaha, nice oxymoron.

Asian food is generally less oily than American food, I think. They do eat bread. They eat rice, too. ._________.
I just replied in another topic about winter break dieting. Do not have that sort of mindset.
It won't work if you're doing this just so people at school will notice a difference.
You don't have to come back like BAM! You just became super different in 2 weeks!
No. It takes time and effort to lose weight, so don't expect sudden changes.

But it's not about oily foods...Oily foods are GOOD for you. It's the carbs that you want to cut down on...But cut down on bad carbs or simple carbs in other words (most kinds of rice, white bread etc) and add more complex carbs.

It's important to keep in mind your health as well as losing weight. Cause sure pigging out on Haagan Daaz ice cream and then exercising like 6 hours a day would probably mean you lose weight (calorie intake < calorie consumption), but it sure isn't healthy.

Its just another ordinary miracle today.

-most people live in apartments, many of which have no elevator...i died climbing like 9 flights of stairs multiple times a day when I went back.
-more walking outside
-smaller proportions
-higher temperature, so theres less of an urge to eat
-not much food stored around the house (bought from market daily for meals)

That's true! They walk a lot and I reckon that's why most of them aren't overweight. On top of being ectomorphs and society's obsession with being thin (e.g. slimming centres everywhere)...

In my opinion, the food portion in HK isn't that small. I had to share a plate of chicken rice with my mom.
When I went back to HK, I gained 10lbs in one week. LOL.
The food = awesome. Couldn't help myself. LOL.

And yeah, I've been to the US once and yeah, the portion is a lot bigger.

A Medium in McDs is a Large here. I used to be fascinated with their Large fries because I've never seen anything so big before. LOL.
Best, you've got to be the best. You've got to change the world.
And use this chance to be heard. Your time is now.

I'm pretty sure that drinking green hot tea and red wine will help your metabolism up. (i just heard in the news)

most of the Chinese love to drink hot tea
w/c helps to burn the unhealthy carbs.
unlike in western countries who love to drink soda.

Chinese people love to EAT!
beside from walking

some asian girls have just have a natural petite body or smaller bones
unlike others who have natural curver or bigger bones.
Whenever something difficult comes up in my life,
I've made it a habit to say to myself, "at least it won't kill you."

It's probably not fast metabolism. It's the healthy food and exercising. Most teens have a lot of homework and stuff to do, so they don't really eat out of boredom. When i went back to China, i ate A LOT of yummy resturant foods, meat and stuff. But when i came back i didn't gain any weight. Because i exercized without knowing it, climbing up and down stairs, walking everywhere, shopping.. My mom use to be really slim, but when she came to Canada and started eating the foods here, she gained a lot of weight. (:

-cut down on portion sizes
-drink water or tea (cut out alcohol and fizzy drinks)
-eat lots of veg, fruit and grains (steamed or boiled or raw)
-avoid heavy dressings, sauces and cheese toppings

Hmm.
