For my HS life, I've been sleeping 2-5 hours. Until my body couldn't take it senior year.
Right now I have trouble falling asleep and waking up the right time.
You cannot sacrifice sleep. You need at least 7 hours no matter what.
LOL, and yes you do fall asleep in class. I also fall asleep sleeping on the train you get really tired.
Please, sleep.

coffeeeee. lots and lots of coffee....
don't drink TOO much though; that's bad for your health. Not getting enough sleep is also bad for your health cuz it leads to more health problems later in life...not that I get enough sleep myself...

How do you guys live? I need at least 8 hours for my brain to be refreshed. If my homework's not done, then it's not done. There's no way I'd sacrifice my sleep time.

If I have to choose between Time and Procrastination, I'll choose Time, but Procrastination will always get me. How unfair life is.

since: doing better .. means --> more study time .. which means --> less sleep
but I can't function well without sleep!
I need at least 8hrs or else I'll feel horrible, have bad skin (develop acne) and have dark circles under my eyes.
Also, coffee doesn't really work on me, 'cause I'll end up sleeping no matter what... and energy drinks work on me if taken once in a while (loses its effectiveness if taken often and it's not good for your health if taken often).
Anyways, the bottom line is that we all need sleep.
But... I guess going to university/college here in North America (Canada & US) is more stressful than going to uni/college in Asian countries.
My friend went for exchange in Japan for one semester said that the workload there wasn't as heavy compared to here.

thank you! if you can't fit all your responsibilities into your day without sacrificing your sleep, then you probably need to take on less courses, clubs, whatever. or...manage your time better. i noticed that all this lack of sleep is usually brought on by procrastination. people in my dorm (myself included) last year would be playing video games and going out and THEN they'd start their work at around...oh...midnight. totally unhealthy, haha. take advantage of any spare moment you have during the day to do some reading, some homework problems, etc. spread it out and don't save it all for night time. i do this and try to keep my evenings free, and it just feels so good to be able to watch tv with a free conscience. sleeping less will make you less productive the next day anyhow, so it's all a matter of better time management.

So one semester I was taking 19 hours of class, TAing for another class, working 15 hours a week, running the Korean part of the Asian American Film Festival, attending weekly club meetings, househunting for 5 people since my friends were studying abroad or out of state, spending inordinate amounts of time online, and managing some semblance of a social life. The previous semester wasn't much better. I made it out that year with all A's.
Here's how: I averaged 3-4 hours a sleep a night, and that was a good night--sometimes I went without, or got 45 minutes of sleep. I kept all the local coffee houses in business. I went on 2 AM energy drink runs. I cut up No Doz in class and looked like a coke addict. I detoxed during winter break, which was HELL--36 hours of alternating fever and chills, nausea, exhaustion, etc., and when school started, I piled on the caffeine again. I worked night shifts. I did all my homework in a rush the hour before it was due. I holed myself up in the lounge for 48-hour periods at a time during finals, pounding out all my final papers and not emerging except for food or bathroom breaks. I only showered once every couple days, which was like torture to me because I start feeling gross after 18 hours.
I also crashed frequently in class--completely unable to keep my eyes open even during my favorite subjects. I was an emotional wreck and found myself crying hysterically for the first time in my life. I couldn't focus. I peed a lot because that's what caffeine does to you, and freaked out the first couple times my urine looked radioactive (because that's what some energy drinks do to you). I hallucinated. The handful of times I did have the opportunity to get more sleep, I couldn't, because my body had gotten so used to only a couple hours. I saw a shrink because I thought I had ADD and they just told me to sleep. My friends were convinced I'd go crazy and die and would refuse to hang out with me so I could sleep. My mom ended every phone conversation with an order to get more sleep.
And the weird thing is, at the time I felt pretty good. Every time a new challenge or obstacle presented itself, I felt exhilarated. Once you get moving, you find a rhythm and the momentum just pushes you along. You get convinced that 4 hours of sleep is a pretty sweet deal. You volunteer to work 16 hours without sleeping for 3 days because you think you're used to it.
So yes, it is possible.
BUT DON'T EVER, EVER DO THIS TO YOURSELF. EVER.
If some horrible person killed everyone I ever loved and I was given the opportunity to exact bloody revenge, I would trade all the torture devices in the world for the chance to just make them go without sleep. IT IS AWFUL.

I only get 4 hours most of the time and I do more than fine in classes.
You have to get used to it, train yourself to stay awake.
And of course coffee and energy drinks help.
