There is no need for you to rush. Do things in the right order because lets say you do get in an accident or get hurt, you could (or your parents) can get in trouble. No matter how small the probability, it's not worth the risk. I doubt your dad would take you anyway.

Get your permit first and gosh, you only have to wait another week and a half. It's not going to kill you.

Just be patient... not worth the risk. Maybe not worth getting screamed at, but still, it'll happen soon enough. Pretty soon you realize driving can be as much of a burden as it can be of an enjoyment... no lies.

Besides, pass the test, no issues, then drive with your parents' blessing, rather than their anger. Tends to go much better.

Do your drivers ed asap and try to get your permit as soon as you turn 15 and a half, just hope your parents won't procrastinate taking you to take the written test.

I dunno, I think practicing in an empty parking lot is a good idea for a first time. I learned driving when I was twelve first in an empty parking lot then in some empty back roads. Your dad sounds like a hot tempered person you probably might get yelled at as being a first time driver lol.

Your father is correct, it is illegal. The only way you can do that is if you do it in your own driveway/backyard or you know the owner of said PRIVATE parking lot and he/she has given you permission to utilize their property in such manner

Driving with my dad was the worst experience in my life. I hated sitting in the car with him. He kept saying how I'd fail my test. On the contrary, I got it my first try; my step mom failed her first try.

The fact that you care that you're 15 and a half makes you still immature smile.gif

^Well, if she lives in California she's not allowed to get her permit until she's 15 and a half so maybe that's why she mentioned it?

even driving in a parking lot without a permit is no good...by law you can't drive without the permit. so your dad is correct, get your written permit first...your dad is held responsible if some freak accident happens while you are driving without a permit.

yeah. she's not being immature by mentioning she's 15 1/2 years old. Fifteen and a half is the legal age to get a permit in California.

it's illegal to drive anywhere, any time for any reason if you don't have a permit or a license. Get over it and just wait.

My dad wouldn't let me drive without my permit either
BUT of course i wouldn't even if he did let me cause it is illegal and if i get caught by the cops, then i would be in big trouble, especially my dad.

Like what everyone is saying, it is illegal to drive without a permit or license.
Just wait because you have plenty of time.

i think it would be better for you to get your permit first. why risk geting caught , and having to wait some more?
