Do you change the actual pronunciation of your name so it's easier for other's to pronounce?
You know those times when someone asks for your name, or the roll calls in class or even at your graduation
For me, I've lived in the USA for 11 years, and I've found very few people who can pronounce my name correctly.
Granted that they don't speak my language, but it happens all the time. But I've noticed that most Asian languages use one syllable words. So I've changed the way my name is pronounced in one syllable to two syllables to help with pronunciation, but as time goes on, I actually start to believe that that is the name I really have.
My name is Truc btw, and I've heard it called "Truck" or even "True"
One time my name got butchered really bad was at my school's Awards ceremony (before graduation), and our Assistant principal was presenting us with our awards and she completely failed when it came to my name, ALL THREE TIMES! So the third time, my entire senior class all spoke out in unison and said "It's Trueee-k".
Good thing at graduation, it was our class president and vice president announcing or else it would have been worst.
How bad has your name been butchered? for those who use your Asian names.
I've searched to see if there's a thread like this and couldn't find it. If there is, please DELETE this, thanks :]
