umm your genes? i mean you can't make your hips wider because you can't make your coxal bones wider, unless you want love handles...but it doens't seem like you are looking for those. the only thing is exercise to get a smaller waist, giving the illusion that you have bigger hips?

Hips are determined by genes and also race and amount of estrogen right o_O Because if you're Asian, you'll tend to have smaller hips because you anticipate (or your body does) smaller babies. Hormones play a big part as well.

Hips are part of the bone structure so yeah... not much you can really do to change that ^^;;

yea there's nothng you can do to get wide hips. it's like asking if you'd grow any taller when you're already done with your growth spurt. of course, you could always gain some weight but that means everything else will get wide too.

my family has the hips too but we also have the big butt to go with it. that means a lot of exercise to keep trim. i hate it at times.

i saw on truth about the sexes
that if a woman's hips are wider, it means they can easily conceive
so im guessing it has to do with your hormone levels such as estrogen vs. testosterone

try eating more chicken and drinking soy products
both of them have high levels of estrogen

My friend says ballet makes your hips wider, which is why she quit...I'm not sure it it's true at all...but I know the ballet teacher has wide hips? keke... I'm pretty sure this is true though because a lot of the center of balance in ballet comes from the hips

>.< Eep don't bash me please if I'm wrong, ballerinas *covers head*

Whatever.
I drink milk everyday since I was little and eat lots of chickens, I'm top heavy, big breast with narrow hips and skinny legs.
My sister on the other hand, she has tiny breast and wide hips or bottom heavy. She doesn't do ballet or other sport activity btw.

It's all genetic, nothing else promotes it.

It's like a lottery, you might have it, you might not.

It's alright been said, it's genetics. Just like how tall you grow,
and how big your breasts become. There's really nothing you can
really do or eat to change that.

You can't change your bones.

Sitting around all day gives you a flat backside.

Why would you want bigger hips?! I have huge hips and they make me feel really bulky! I don't think you can make yourself have bigger hips though, cos there isn't any fat on my hips, it's just big cos of the bone and you can't really make your bones any bigger or smaller...

Try belly dancing? It tones your stomach and gives you a small waist and the smaller your waist looks the bigger your hips will look.

It's genetics, nothing else. Wide hips have been in my generation for ages, so all the females in the family have relatively wide hips.
I doubt diet has anything to do with it. My sisters and I have very different food tastes, opposites even, but we're all still bottom-heavy.
Like another poster already mentioned, all you can do is work with what you have and try to create the illusion of bigger hips through a smaller waist.
