NAME OF GYM:
world health club

LOCATION:
calgary, ab (northhill location)

VISITS PER WEEK:
went oncee to try it out

COST:
N/A

COMMENTS:
i really like how they have a women's area where only women can work out. they also have machines that work specifically on women problem areas. (thigh machines, calf machines, lovehandle machines.. etc) that can only be found in the women's area. they have a Spin Class which is really fun with the instrucer. (on bikes)

OVERALL SATISFACTION:
really nice first impression. space is a bit small and dark..

NAME OF GYM: ymca
LOCATION:
calgary, ab (eau claire location)

VISITS PER WEEK:
3 to 4

COST:
general membership for student - $44.50/month and $508.34/year.
plus membership for women - $96.24/month and $1127.72/year
plus membership for men is more.. not sure what it is but they have laundry service.

COMMENTS:
plus membership has private locker room that you need a code to get into, hot tub, towel service, shampoo&conditioner, hair styling products and tools, lounge area, steam room, and massage (pay extra). also it has in the room is an entire workout area with everything you need to get a workout done. like 5 treadmills and ellipticals etc.. general locker rooms is very big but there's a lot of kids around when it's not prime time hours.. the gym overal is huge! indoor swimming pool and running track. workout area on 4th floor, basketball gym, racquetball gym, free weights area. there's soo much to do there and it's very clean esp. for the size of it. there's a cafe that sells fresh and nutritious food everyday.

OVERALL SATISFACTION:
lots of new equipment that comes in and the area is big with 4 floors and tons of sports to do there also tons of workout equipment to use. they have financial assistant if u need it.

NAME OF GYM: 24 Hour Fitness
LOCATION: 8785 Center Parkway
VISITS PER WEEK: 6 days a week 1 day rest
COST: $29.99 monthly =(
COMMENTS: The atmosphere is one of the best, the workout area is pretty spacious but the only downside is too many people on certain occasions
OVERALL SATISFACTION: I love it =) I'd choose 24 over any other gym!
OVERALL GOAL: Get lean and gain muscle!

NAME OF GYM: LA Fitness
LOCATION: Don't remember, somewhere near my parent's place
VISITS PER WEEK: 7 days a week usually, odd times 5
COST: I forgot
COMMENTS: I was there for a summer(4 months). The variety of equipment there was amazing. The place was huge.
The environment was intense, there were a lot of huge guys using the weights at all times. Don't ever go near the end of the business day
aka 5pm. Too many morons that just got off work go there and socialize with each other while using machines for 329948293 sets, as if
they're some olympic bodybuilder and have the physique of a couch potato. One more thing, it was also open 24hrs a day except on weekends.
OVERALL SATISFACTION: My best gym experience even though I always worked out alone. 9.5/10
OVERALL GOAL: Gain muscle mass and get massive.

NAME OF GYM: The Zone
LOCATION: My University
VISITS PER WEEK: 5 to 7 days.
COST: Approximately 300 a year.
COMMENTS: Tons of people in there that have absolutely no idea what they're doing. Also the people who has absolutely no physique
hogging machines and weights for 9238492384 sets. Small gym, lack of quantity of equipment. There is no decent leg press.
Has the basics in terms of equipment.
OVERALL SATISFACTION: It's alright, I make do with what I have. Still growing so it's not a bad thing. 7/10.
OVERALL GOAL: Gain muscle mass and get massive.

**Note: These are all in Canada.
Good call making this thread. People who are gym shy can actually get a decent and honest feedback from us here.

I have to agree, and just to add for 24 hour fitness sometimes if your lucky you can call in and tell them that you want to cancel your account and most or half of the time they'll try to bribe you back in by asking you if you'd want to pay a lesser amount I remember before they offered me about $14 a month which is pretty good! =)

NAME OF GYM: UNLV Recreation and Wellness Center smile.gif
LOCATION: Las Vegas University Campus
VISITS PER WEEK: not enough laugh.gif
COST: Freeee~
COMMENTS: It rocks, especially since it still pretty darn new so everything just feels so .. clean? haha. I've gone swimming a few times in the indoor pool, there's soo many machines (i.e. treadmills, bikes ... some with tvs attached haha), shiny basketball/volleyball courts and a whole level devoted to being an indoor track(which I have not partaken in YET). There are always classes like Yoga or Kickboxing going on. Everythings just so awesome lol.
OVERALL SATISFACTION: I LOVE YOU GYM! I promise I'll never cheat on you hehe =D

NAME OF GYM: XSport Fitness (24/7,365)

LOCATION: Niles, IL

VISITS PER WEEK: 4 days/wk

COST: $40/mo (access to all XSport locations) - no contract

COMMENTS: Great gym that's well-maintained. The crowd that works out there is great and the girls are cute. I couldn't ask for more, except maybe more squat racks and dumbells. Too many dudes hogging the squat racks to do bicep curls and people running off to the other side of the gym with dumbells that everyone else needs to use.

OVERALL SATISFACTION: 9/10

NAME OF GYM: Urban Active Fitness Center
LOCATION: OH
VISITS PER WEEK: 5-7 times a week (unless it's a holiday or if I'm really busy)
COST: (not sure, parents paid :x) But I'm guessing about $39.99 a month or $500 a yr (?)
COMMENTS: Pretty cool place to workout since there's plasma TV's hanging almost everywhere playing MVs (you'll never get bored). There's also a cardio theater which is basically a cardio room in a theater. They show a movie while you workout ^^. Also, there's a spinning room, indoor track, pool, yoga place, and a small workout room for women. (2 stories high) Since this place is new, it's clean, but sometimes crowded especially at night.
OVERALL SATISFACTION: 5 stars biggrin.gif

NAME OF GYM:
24 Hour Fitness
LOCATION:
Reno, NV (Neil Rd. location)
VISITS PER WEEK:
1-2
COST:
Around $30 a month
COMMENTS:
The fact that is was supposed to be open 24/7 and it wasn't, not cool. That's the reason why I tried to join that gym than my school's gym. Besides that, it was big facility, but not enugh cardio machines. They had alot of weight machines grouped by muscle groups which was good, especially for a person who has never been to a gym, like me. Outdor pool was nice, but not ideal for winter.
OVERALL SATISFACTION:
It was alright, but cost did not cover what I wanted or needed. It was more a bodybuilder's than for a person who wants to lose weight and fat.

NAME OF GYM:
Lombardi recreation Center
LOCATION:
Reno, NV (University of Nevada, Reno's gym)
VISITS PER WEEK:
1-3
COST:
About $150 per school year
COMMENTS:
It was convient since it was on campus and my peers went there so it wasn't as intimidating like 24 hour fitness. Many of my friends had that membership so they went and worked out with me at the gym. I had expected since, but there's just not enough cardio eqipment on those busy days. I love the group classes though!
OVERALL SATISFACTION:
I really loved it! I didn't go as often as I should have, but it was a great little gym for me.

NAME OF GYM:
Las Vegas Atheletic Club
LOCATION:
Las Vegas, NV (215 and Flamingo location)
VISITS PER WEEK:
1-5 depending on my motivation
COST:
$31 per month (current gym)
COMMENTS:
So many cardio machines, I LOVE IT! Even when I go on the busy days, there's always a cardio machine for me. Huge facility and a women's only gym. Indoor pool is nice because it does get cold in Las Vegas haha tongue.gif The cost isn't overwehlming since I have primere membership which includes guest passes, body anaylisis every month and a personal trainer session every month. I love the group classes, they are probably my favorite.
OVERALL SATISFACTION:
I love this gym and it's possibly my favorite. This is the memebership I have now and I wouldn't go back. I'm going to so sad when I move away from Las Vegas and there won't be a LVAC for me anymore tongue.gif

NAME OF GYM: Healthworks
LOCATION: Brighton, MA
VISITS PER WEEK: 5
COST: Many different plans but I'm on the lowest one cause of the student discount. I pay $39 but the real price is orginally $72. I know crazy price difference! XD
COMMENTS: First gym I have ever join and so far I really love it. They have plenty of equipment and floor space for the classes. Nice locker room and suana/whorlpool
OVERALL SATISFACTION: I can wait to go back, since I'm on xmas break I'm just dying to go back and work off the xmas food.. lol

NAME OF GYM: Bally's
LOCATION: San Jose, Ca
VISITS PER WEEK: (Summer thing) 5
COST: Approx 700-800 for 3 years.
COMMENTS: Many reviews give Bally's a poor rating. Personally, I agree with this. A lot of people do not fill out the requirements to quit this gym after 'reading' the fine print. However, in general, I had quite a pleasant time at this Bally's in San Jose. I do not recommend this gym however. Bally's will burn a hole through your pocket. Customer service sucks & they aren't very accurate with information either.
OVERALL SATISFACTION: 4/10

OVERALL: Bally's is a SCAM. DO NOT EVER JOIN.
(thank bob I was able to quit.)

I'm going to review all of the 24's I visited. lol
NAME OF GYM: 24 hour fitness
COST: $600 for first 3 years and now $24 a year (A total steal! ^__^)

LOCATION: San Mateo, CA
VISITS PER WEEK: ... not very often lately lol. but before it was once or twice a week.
COMMENTS: Two floors, and has a pool area (w/ sauna, jacuzzi, steam room). The staff are friendly and it's clean most of the time. I hate how they only clean the pool water once a week. It's really nasty when you see little black pieces floating in the water.
OVERALL SATISFACTION: Great but they need to take better care of the pool. 4/5

LOCATION: Van Ness, San Francisco, CA
VISITS PER WEEK: Used to go once a week
COMMENTS: Fairly big for San Francisco. It's pretty busy most of the time but it's very clean. The showers are wonderful! haha.
OVERALL SATISFACTION: My favorite SF 24 when I don't need to swim. 5/5

LOCATION: Ocean, San Francisco, CA
VISITS PER WEEK: went 3-4 times a week while in high school
COMMENTS: It's a small 1 floor gym with pool, sauna, steam, and jacuzzi. I used to love this one but i realized it was seriously small and it's not really well kept. I think a lot of people come here to socialize with their friends
OVERALL SATISFACTION: 3/5

LOCATION: 16th St, San Francisco, CA
VISITS PER WEEK: Only visited once
COMMENTS: This gym is so tiny and smashed together. There are so many people packed into a small space. Plus side, they have a huge pool. I left as soon as I saw the pool area stuffed with like 10 people in the pool, ~15 sitting down on the benches, and who knows how many people were in the steam and sauna rooms. I couldn't stand it so yeah.
OVERALL SATISFACTION: 2/5

I think if you're planning to swim more, YMCA is better.

I plan to visit the 24 in San Jose on Capitola (sp?) while I'm down there at SJSU.

NAME OF GYM: 24 hour fitness
LOCATION: san jose, CA
VISITS PER WEEK: 3
COST: $22/month - I went under a friend's friend and family
COMMENTS: the classes are excellent, its one of the older 24 hours in the bay so its not up to par as the new ones like milpitas.
OVERALL SATISFACTION: B

LOCATION: Wichita, KS

VISITS PER WEEK: 5 times a week

COST: Went during free enrollment. D: But cost like $20 a month

COMMENTS: My mom hired me a personal trainer, so i loved the place! & the group activities were really fun and worth it. The group yoga and pilates were the best. D:
