i got a corrola le, 2007, only put 16k miles on it so far.........came with the all season Goodyear Integrity tires.......

now i havent driven in the snow much, only the 2 snowstorms that's hit since i started driving.......but it doesnt seem like these tires are cutting it........there's barely 2 inches on the ground, and i'm turning, albeit slowly, trying to go up this incline, but it's not steep at all...

i wind up turning into the the opposite lane (it was late, no car was around thankfully) then i start slipping and sliding going up that little incline..........

just wondering if anyone here's got snow tires......am i better off getting snow tires and just switching them back and forth? or just get all season tires with a higher tread?

hmm how long were you on the road because you gotta let your tires get warmed up first and same goes with snow tires. i have all season tires on my mom's g35 and does the same when the tires are cold but once i was on the road and the tires got warmed up i didnt have a hard time getting up a small hill. just let your tires get up to temp then you should be fine.

Wait wait wait, are you comparing texas to NY? O_O Ever tried driving in the snow, especially when there is a lot outside, impossible to even get the tires above freezing point. Winter tires should be considered since they will still be pretty rubbery even way below freezing.

well in the EC it snows there here in texas when it snow it ices. the roads freeze up and the roads turn into ice.

you also warm up your tires by just driving for a while. like 10 to 15 min. then you could drive a little better. winter tires are only nessesary when there is no way to drive in the snow. when the roads here freeze up i take a extra time warming up the car and driving around my neighborhood for like like 5 min for the tires to get warm and a little up to temp.

What I meant was, when you move more north, there aren't places you can drive to even warm up your tires. You get stuck the moment you try to even leave your driveway. That is how it is here with the current 2ft of snow. Well it has melted down to half a feet but many people are still stuck cause it has frozen over.

if you already have all season tires, maybe invest in some tire chains instead.

oh then thats a different story. if your car has been in the drive way when it snowed then yeah you would be able to drive in it. i remember like 2 years ago when i went to NJ to visit family i had to drive my aunts car the morning after it snowed like crazy. i think they got a foot of snow but i managed to get out of the drive way and drive around the block and warm up my tires a bit then everything seemd to get better.

oh and like monr0e said you can invest in chains to.

I dont about all that warming up the tires, but if your all season tires now are not great to you i'd spring for a new set of tires. Snow tires that is. Then just switch them out when snow melts and it gets warmer. Snow tires does a world difference, but you can get by with all seasons if you don't drive like a fool. I prefer to have a set of snow tires and just a set of summer tires for my daily driver. The whole point is starting the car and drive off without having to worry bout traction issues or warming the tires, my blizzaks seem to do that well.

no no never hit up dealerships unless you have to. they tend to overcharge people by alot.

well go any tire store like discount tire company's website and type in your car or you can go to any tire store and they will help you find the right size.

When I drove my old car- Honda Accord, I had snow tires and they're actually pretty great but I only really needed them for a couple days out of the season because it doesnt snow/ice/inclement weather too much in Maryland. NOt as much as up north anyways!!

195/65R15 - Stock size tire.

Is your car equipped with tire pressure monitoring system [TPMS]? If you do not know the answer, look in the owner's manual or call your local dealership.

If your car is equipped with TMPS, link below:

If your car is NOT equipped with TMPS, link below:

I got snow tires! They don't make you superman; but in the snow and slush, they do come in handy.
