I usually do flashcards but they don't seem to work perfectly =/

um, well depending on the subject..
i normally just skim/scan through the part in the textbook
[depending on how long it is..]
and i'll normally take like jot notes?
and mainly concentrate on the important parts XD
so i'll like highlight/underline what i think i need to know..
.. that's how i pretty much went over stuff for my exams =/
depends on the text book LOL.
like some have so much useless info o.o;
also, i forget what it's called..
but sometimes i'll make up one of those things..
that like spells out a word or stands for something? X:
hmm.. flashcards sound like a good idea (x

Even if it's something goofy, you'll remember it even better.
Make the information meaningful and not just words from the textbook, xD
For example, my Anatomy teacher told us a way to remember which names is the thick/thin filaments of a sarcomere..
If you say actin with a lisp, it sounds like "act-thin" which then you remember it's the thin filaments..
Or my sins [myosin] are very thick.. Silly things like that, but it works..

Highlighting and notes work too. Just test out everyones advice and see what fits you the best because we're all different.

Well, I usually try to read everything or just some parts for a start. Then, I try to read under the lines, what does the text want to tell me:P
After that, I just try to ask question I made up and answer them later on without the text near my sight.
Hopes it helps thought...

I did horrible on her tests, failing some, mainly in the 70 and 80s which is horrible and low for me. I only got an A on her tests once. I learned to pay super close attention when she speaks. As for the chapters and homework she wanted us to read and learn from, I never really memorized to well. And my main concern then was passing the AP test because I can still try to keep my grade up with labs and daily homework and classwork grades.
Then I found a AP Bio prep book and it got alot eaiser. It pinpoints what you need and no extra information. I ended up being the one to pass the test when some of my friends that always made high A's on her tests didn't pass. Because of that I LOVE prep books and need to get one for APUSH because i'm in the same situation now.
There goes my life story of ap bio...

I also read out loud sometimes. It sounds a bit silly, but for some reason this really helps me out. Helps me concentrate and remember things.
Also, sometimes what helps is explaining a concept to someone/just explaining a concept out loud to yourself. That way you'll figure out your weaknesses because you won't be able to give a good explanation of whatever it is you don't understand as well. (:
sorry for the jumbled up response o_O

something one of my AP teachers made us do was make a chapter outline/study sheet type thing where you had the limit of only one page... so we had to basically comprise the whole 30-40 page chapter into one sheet. You should have a more than decent understanding of what you've read if you do it good/correctly because you would have had to look through the chapter and figure out which facts are important/needed to know. It sounds a little ridiculous, but it's actually a really effective way of reviewing information so I definitely recommend this if your course is book-heavy. I haven't taken AP Bio so I wouldn't know X: ... good luck one way or another!

you can try doing that, I guess that really helps because it makes you read & type it out at the same time
