hey everyone
i purchased Rodney Yee's Power Yoga: Total Body DVD about two days ago since i promised myself to get started on SOME sort of workout this year...and i was just curious, what PHYSICAL effects can yoga have on your body?
i've been trying to do some research over the internet, but so far, either i really suck at researching or most sites have been feeding me mainly the beneficial aspects of yoga on your psyche, biological functioning, and spirituality.
so...i know all that stuff, but i'd rather have some visual confirmation that yoga WORKS. ..that is predominantly why i purchased the dvd in the first place.
to narrow it down,
are you currently doing yoga or have you tried yoga before?
have you noticed any physical effects on your body from doing yoga?
if so, what was your routine like and how often did you do it?
thanks a bunch! i really appreciate it!

I once saw on a plastic surgery show, called Dr. 90210.
One patient was a yoga teacher, She's 50 YEARS OLD!!
When she said her age, my jaw dropped. o_O
Her body was SO fit, like those fit yoga teachers on the DVD covers.
In the show, she had hands rejuvenation procedure (remove dark spots, reduce the appearance of her veins and wrinkles), because even though her body stayed fit because of the yoga, her skin showed her real age.

When I used to do yoga, I became more flexible and I had better balanced. When I say I used to do yoga it is because my class ended in school so I haven't been motivated to do it on my own. You definitely develop better posture if you are doing it correctly. You appear to slimmer because you have better posture. It also depends on what kind of yoga you do. There are some yoga poses that can burn alot of calories but I didn't do those so you are also able to lose weight if you do those. Yoga takes time to show results. You generally feel better because yoga helps increase your intake of oxygen with all those breathing techniques.

I started doing yoga because I wanted to be more flexible and also so I could calm down since my life was really hectic and stressful back then.
So I've been doing yoga since last year, summertime, and I hadn't done any yoga until then. The first 2-3 months I did it everyday for 40 minutes and now I'm doing it every other day. It's definitely made me more flexible and helped control my balance. I couldn't get the hang of some of the positions when I first started doing it, but now I've "mastered" those positions and I can stay still without losing my balance even once. It's also "calmed me down" alot; after and during the time I do yoga, I feel so relaxed and at ease.
It's a slow process, though, I didn't notice any differences in my body until recently. I didn't lose any weight from doing it and I didn't expect to do so either, I doubt you actually can lose weight from only doing yoga unless maybe, you keep doing it for years. So it's not something you should turn to if you want to lose weight (since you mentioned physical effects, I'm just assuming) because it alone is not a work-out.

ahh...i see...
thanks for all the responses!
it seems like yoga by itself isn't sufficient enough for weight-loss so i'll probably kick in some cardio workout alongside yoga.
thanks again!

This is true; Yoga is super powerful combined with other exercises; alone it still is great for toning and flexibility, improved breathing, all sorts of things. Combine it with some cardio for really solid weight loss and a more positive outlook; yoga improves my mood =)
