is there any CLASSIC NOVELS that are easy to do a theme project on? Theme project as in to create something that represents/shows the theme. It doesn't have to do anything with the book.

for an example, if the theme for a book is "nothing is what it seems to be" or "don't judge a book by its cover", I would make a food dish that looks incredibly nasty but tastes good (this is not really a good example).

Please help! Thank youuu smile.gif

These books should be readily available at your local library or used book store:

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickinson
The Sorrows of Young Werther by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Four Feathers by A.E.W. Mason

If it doesn't have to be a novel per se you could look through Emile Bronte, Edgar Allen Poe, William Blake, John Keats, Percy Bysshe Shelley, or Lord Byron.

Maybe "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee?
Stranded in New York.

I think Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is pretty cool. (It's thin, too LOL)
Its Wikipedia article says it explores human duality, etc. (It also inspired characters like Two Face and The Hulk.)

Crime and Punishment as well as War and Peace. Though I think I was the only person in my class that actually enjoyed reading War and Peace, I'll recommend it as a surprisingly easy read w/easy-to-find themes.

Leo Tolstoy's books make it pretty easy to find the themes. The writing is simple enough, and the message rings like a bell to the soul. Anna Karenina is much shorter and sweet...or rather bitter, but still good.

Pride and Prejudice was intended to be satirical, but if taken at blunt value, then the theme is also easy to find. Very funny book, and light hearted read.

I take it that you are looking for fictional Classic books, yes? If not, then The Prince by Machiavelli is great fun. Humorously told by Niccolo, in the same fashion as Edna from The Incredibles.

The Picture of Dorian Grey is interesting.

----Stories your peers might not think of-----

I never really read the Tale of Genji itself, but I have heard stories from it, and it's not so bad. It'll be different, perhaps, from the books your fellow students choose to present.

A Simple Story by Elizabeth Inchbald. Racy and saucy.

One Thousand and One Nights by someone named Shahaazarad or something. (Do NOT trust me at all on that name. I am just sounding it out in my head.) I did a report on it when I was 14. Thankfully and amazingly my teacher had not read it. It was very erotic. I was embarrassed, but hey, it's a classic and it'll be entertaining to tell your friends. Then again, the Kamasutra is another erotic but much shorter novel. Better, too. Unfortunately, your teacher will recognize it.

If you can do plays, that would be so great! I know some that are easy and humorous. Best of all, they are super short. =D
Good luck with your project.

If you're into it I think you could make something so artistic and amazing out of the theme of Lord of the Flies by William Golding. The theme is how man needs society, else they'll return to their primal, savage state and rip each other apart ;D

My favorite classic novels are Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights.
So maybe try those?
I think Jane Eyre is the easier read and I didn't have that much trouble getting into it.
I know I had to discuss some themes in Wuthering Heights for my book project and some were obvious.
Like love and selfishness.

Or you can always pick a classic book and use Spark Notes laugh.gif

How about some Alexander Dumas books? Like the 3 Musketeers? Just bring some 3 musketeer bars. =D But really... I do love Dumas books, Count of Monte Cristo is my favorite.

The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck. One of the best books that I've read! It even won the Pulitzer Prize. Extremely easy to read, story is simple n common but the message is clear n it'll leave u feeling very bitter and the bitterness is definitely lasting. Themes include how money corrupts us, man's relationship with the earth, roles of women, etc.

It would be helpful if you told us the book title.

^Any book. What I meant is to list the book and what you would create for the theme project. Sorry for the confusion! ph34r.gif I have no ideas on what I should do whatsoever.

^ I think you should research a bit on the books the people have suggested and decide for yourself. If we told you the book, it's theme AND what you should create, then you wont get the most out of this project.

^ I have already done the research on those books. I just can't decide what I should make. It's not that simple. If I have thought that, why would I create this thread in the first place? Thanks for your input anyways. smile.gif

Well what did your research tell you? Give us some of your insight and we might be able offer some suggests. Are you required to make a dish or are you free to make whatever you like?

^ i'm planning on doing Sidhartha by Herman Henesse. It's about a man that is in search of enlightment.
The theme is that enlightment = one/unity and that enlightment is different for every person.
I wanted to do a face collage like someone suggested on another thread, but a homemade one would be too difficult.
Any other project ideas...? Thank you so much. I appreciate your help. smile.gif

This might be a stretch for you but what about a poster with Buddha sitting under bodhi tree with a meditation chant circling around him and the tree.

The Gayatri Mantra
The meaning of the Gayatri mantra is as follows:
We contemplate the glory of Light illuminating the three worlds: gross, subtle, and causal.
I am that vivifying power, love, radiant illumination, and divine grace of universal intelligence.
We pray for the divine light to illumine our minds.

Om: The primeval sound
Bhur: the physical world
Bhuvah: the mental world
Suvah: the celestial, spiritual world
Thath: That; God; transcendental Paramatma
Savithur: the Sun, Creator, Preserver
Varenyam: most adorable, enchanting
Bhargo: luster, effulgence
Devasya: resplendent,supreme Lord
Dheemahi: we meditate upon
Dhiyo: the intellect,understanding
Yo: May this light
Nah: our
Prachodayath: enlighten,guide,inspire

Actual chant:
Om Bhur Buvaha Suvaha
Thath Savithur Varenyam
Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi
Dhiyo Yonaha Prachodayath

I doubt I can do that, lol. But thanks for the suggestion. smile.gif Maybe a suggestion for a type of food dish that represents enlightment..? That would be much easier on me, considering I only have a one day & 1/2 to work on the project. If not, I think i'll just do an all nighter for the face collage. Thanks for your suggestion, your help is greatly appreciated~!
