If you think about it seems like a simple question. Or a stupid one...haha

You're just hanging out with your guy friend(s) and when they
make fun of you....just joking around with you, you hit him (them)
in a playful manner. I don't know...its just something that I and a lot of other girls do and you don't really think about it.
But my friend asked me one day why I keep hitting him and I couldn't really give him an answer.

I just think its one way of expressing ones affection to the other.

What do you think? Because if you think about it...guys don't hit girls (it looks too feminine).

I think its a normal gesture.
It's a reflex girls has. To hit boys when they're joking around.
I do that to my guy friends. It's playful hit not serious one.
We just laugh it off and continue joking around.

It might be due to stereotypes. Guys are 'more physical' with epxressing themselves so when dealing with a guy, a girl feels like she has to adjust to his level and automatically hits instead of just telling him off. The guy won't hit back and understands it as a playful gesture. With girls, if they joke around with another girl, the girl will just say words because it's not as socially acceptable to hit (playfully or otherwise) because it's almost an invitation for an actual fight. Kinda like inter-gender rivalry whereas with guys, girls don't feel that sort of rivalry?

i actually hit my guy friend in reaction to his corniness. he continuously teases and makes fun of me so i hit him to shut up. i only hit him cause i know he will never hit me back. he actually tells me to hit harder and tells me the technique of punching so that i wouldn't hurt myself and it's more affective. but when all else fails, i give him purple nurples.... that really makes him shut up.. especially when he's driving (85+ mph in dense fog at 3 in the morning with no headlights on).

i'm pretty violent. but i'm not a pushover :]

When it's intentional? Not in a friendly way; a straight punch to the face or something.

And I don't hit guys, even if we're playfully joking around, because I really don't like physical contact. But for most, it's just a reflex I guess.
