When I'm browsing the internet, my connection occasionally stops and I get connected to an "unidentified network." It usually takes several minutes to get connected again because my laptop is connecting to my school's network and an unidentified network at the same time. Restarting the adapter usually doesn't do much, so I just wait. I live in a dorm and my laptop is connected through a cable. My dorm's WiFi sucks, so I can't even use it. I asked if if there was something wrong with the dorm's internet, but they said no. =/ I Googled my problem and looks like a lot of people with Vista are having issues with the "unidentified network" problem... I found no solution, so I was wondering if anyone on Soompi had any suggestions...

So it gives you unidentified network when you're connected with the lan cable too?
Can you go to the network and sharing center > Network connections (on the left) to see what network interfaces you have going?
Generally you can set the network to be trusted (home) or public (untrusted) and it should stay that way unless you happen to have something that is connected, but isn't connected. I had that problem with VMware because it would not connect to a network properly because it was virtual.
Most people don't run vmware, so it makes me wonder if you're connecting to random wifi points
