So I just got into a accident yesterday...I'm fine physically but my car...took some damage. crazy.gif

I have a Lexus ES300 now, and the front bumper part:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...Lexus_ES300.jpg

by the license plate and bumper is pushed inward because I rear-ended one of these babies:

crazy.gif

So my dad has offered to buy me a replacement car. Right now, I'm looking toward a used Acura TSX or a Scion tC.

But is there anymore things you guys would recommend?

Type of car (sporty, luxury, economy, SUV): Economy is first priority. But luxury is nice too biggrin.gif
Price range:
$10000-$20000( trade in value for my car right now would be about 5k if I'm lucky.)
New or used:
Either
Manual or automatic:
Automatic please.
Years of driving:
1.5 years.
Cars currently suggesting:
Scion tC, Acura TSX or Acura RSX
Needs and other info (do you need passenger room, cargo space, AWD, etc):

Will be used mainly for commuting to school and home. I go home on weekends, an hour drive each way. So I definitely need a car that's reliable and will hold on. And because I'm worried, I need a car that's best in accidents, just in case.

So uh...help? sweatingbullets.gif

civic, accord, corolla, camry, i suppose you want a gas saver for the long ride home. the tsx is nice but isnt nice on gas mileage compared to the rsx and tc.
but since im bias i would go for the tsx or rsx lol

If it's new, don't get a civic... new civics are bleh in my book. Corolla, Camry, Mazda3 or Mazda6... 6 is a bit expensive as is the Camry, but if you buy used they'd be fine. Mazda, Toyota, and Honda have the highest reliability, highest crash test ratings, best customer service, and best warantees... DO NOT BUY AMERICAN. I've been against American vehicles since I first understood the concept of a car, which is probably around 1998. Just don't do it; you'll regret it if you do.

i just went through this same dilemma after i totalled my acura rsx.
i really would not recommend the rsx simply because the reason mine got totalled was due to it being so tiny...it got crushed between two SUVs and the airbags couldn't deploy since the rsx's bumper fit under the SUV in front of me. on another note, the ride is fairly bumpy and it's surprisingly not very quick.
you should check out the vw rabbit. that's what i ended up buying yesterday XD !! it's decently fast and very comfy. plenty of room in the cabin and the back as well. i never thought vws were very reliable, but consumer reports magazine actually loves the rabbit and recommends it. i believe it received a perfect score in the magazine's safety and road tests. i paid $18k for mine :]

I'm not into the RSX much..more the TSX...8D My dad said he would pay for my car; whichever one I choose, but I feel bad because I was driving his old car which became mine, and that was considered a luxury car and I dinged it. -______- My car is pretty old anyway, and has about 110k of mileage on it...methinks it's time for a new car.

I really like the new Corolla...or the Accord. But the Accord is a tad masculine. just a tad. I noticed you live in NJ too <-- zip code. If you don't mind me asking, where'd you get it from?

that's so nice that your dad will pay for your new car...mine did too. we're really lucky biggrin.gif
i agree that the accord is a little bit masculine. it's something about the design of the front, i think.
and where'd i get which from, my rabbit or my old rsx? i got the rsx from precision acura of princeton (actually in lawrenceville) and the rabbit from princeton vw :]

Yeah, but he's not at home now, so it will have to wait a bit I suppose. But we are lucky =D

Yeah, I love the back of the Accord but something about the front just.... o.O;

I'm really in love with the TSX but I have to think about practicality...big part of the mileage will be from commuting.

tsx all the way, but if you're considering more on mileage, get a corolla or camry, they're decent, cheap and reliable. my mom has a 99 corolla ce and she's still driving it with 160k and it never broke down once, only a popped tire. i have the celica gt with everything leather and i got it for $12k (used) and i love it. i have friends who have/had the tc, they liked it at first but now they hate it. i personally don't like the tc cuz of crappy interior, everything's like plastic. also one of my friends brother totalled the car after he stopped at the stop sign, and he "didn't" see the lady coming as he tried to make a left and so the tc did like a 480 and slammed onto a wall. so crash rating doesn't sound good.
