i have a lot of mood swings. sometimes i feel happy and like i care about a lot of things. other times i feel like those things don't really matter anymore. but then i know deep down inside they do. also, i could be extremely upset about a situation to a point where i feel like i have to do something about it. then in a few hours i don't hold that grudge anymore and i don't know why i got so angry in the first place. i would be so angry and then all of a sudden happy when i don't think of it as a big deal anymore. basically to sum it up, i go through emotional highs and lows a lot. and no it's not pms cuz this doesn't just happen around the time i have my period.

my question is: do a lot of teens have this problem too or do you think i have some type of mood/personality disorder?

how old are you exactly??

I remember this happening to me especially during my junior high years
but, like you said, it's a phase that most teenagers go through with their hormones

I personally believe that most mood/personality "disorders" can be fixed by the person himself
only the he can control how he feels and reacts to certain situations
don't let your emotions get the best of you!

Never know..it COULD be a mood/personality disorder.......then again, you're a teen......and most likely that stage you're going through.... you're hormones.. And it's that time in your life where there's a lot of changes going on, you're trying to figure out who you are, not a kid anymore yet not an adult.....etcetc

I was exactly the same way...mainly in my early high school years.
I'm almost 21 now.....and I definitely can say that I don't have that problem anymore. I mean, everyone goes through those emotional ups and downs, but it's nothing like how it was when I was a teen crazy.gif

If you're between the age of 12 and about 17, then yes, absolutely normal. Your body goes through HUGE hormonal changes, and your mood swings are a result of your brain trying to adapt; it's all a big electric process, and the hormones are interrupting it in some ways, enhancing it in others, and your body overcompensates back and forth.

Perfectly normal, a few years and it'll start to fade until you realize it's not even a problem anymore, because it won't be happening.

You are perfectly fine, so don't worry. I used to be like that too, and my friends also.

I agree that it's normal but certainly not something that should be dismissed just because it's something that a lot of teenagers go through. If you feel like this is disrupting your life, you should take a trip to your doctor. There's medication available to balance out your hormones.

It's how I've been feeling lately. Sometimes I'll start feeling really angry/sad about something and start crying or being in a really cruddy mood in general then something good happens and i'm over it. I'm generally a happy person but just sometimes i feel really really low ><

I know I haven't got a mood/personality disorder but I wouldn't dismiss those things so easily just in case.

I remember reading somewhere that when you're a teenager, it's like your brain's still making connections, we're not developed yet, which is why we go through mood swings, bad decisions etc.

Wow... that's exactly how I feel!

Sometimes I'm like: GOSH why is life so rather infelicitous, why am I so darn ugly, why am I so miserable etc.
and sometimes I'm like: GOSH why is life so beautiful, I look so lovely, I'm soooo happy yeah yeah

i'm 17 for those that asked.
thanks for all the replies!
i guess i'll help myself by trying to think things through clearly before i just blow up into a fit of bad emotions.
actually that's what i should do in the first place! >_<
i know but it's hard when you make stupid decisions right in the heat of the moment.
