Heys Soompi,

I recently purchased a Gigabyte Nvidia 9800Gt. Ever since then when ever a play a high end game ie assissins creed,cod4 on high setting (1920x1080) it always restarts about 10 mins in game. It works fine for the 1st 10 mins. I can play games fine on low settings as well.

my 1st though was a temperature problem, so i installed 2 fans, prob still occurs.

i also changed my power supply from 350watts to 650 watts, still no luck,

i've also installed the latest nvidia drivers and still no luck.

any suggestions/help?

i have an E6750 @ 2.66ghz with a massive zalman heatsink
2Gb ram
p5k pro motherboard

my preovious card was an asus 8600gt and it never crashed.

Put in the six pin power connector to your videocard.

I don't know what else to say, really. Return the defective card.

i have the same problem with some games, i bought a asus 9800gt ultimate crashed every time. it's not a defective card it's driver problems i think its ntkdisp.dll file

i think stops responding due to the temp/fan speed monitoring of video card fans. you can google it alot of people have the same problem with 9800gt. you can try something like rearranging your ram though i doubt it be any good you can try.

a 350W to 650W is a good choice but it really doesn't matter it's all about how much amps the psu can pump out. like it's gota to be @ least about 36 amps if single rail [says on every psu well it should or check it's specs online] or like in 2 rails or more at least 22 amps.

if unsure use http://www.corsairmemory.com/psufinder/default.aspx

i came to the conclusion it's the card compatibility with games. my old card was a 7900gtx played games no crashes ever. i'm talking all high end games crysis and that. either play around with drivers old and new versions find the best one and possibly try a new temp/fan speed monitoring tool for your video card. like riva tuner? it's free and full version

i'm using latest nvidia drivers i can play crysis fine. only sometimes it crashes but not every 10 mins more like once in 50 times i play.

my advice turn on fan high when gaming [your problem is not heat related but monitoring related] don't use the auto fan control feature. manually adjust it that's what i do.

i also changed the video card settings in game and it works most of time it doesn't crash so like before you play change the video card settings around a bit then set it back to what you want it at.

or if you a really dissatisfied which at one point i was but i kept my card and fixed it using drivers and experimenting with different temp/fan speed monitoring software, you can ask for a replacement from where you got it from using your warranty if any.

pretty much if you can play video files fine and crashes in game it's gota to be the video card monitoring causing you problems and also driver problems not a defective card. trust me i also thought it be a defective card but again if you aint happy get a replacement which most likely fix the prob for good or stay away from 9800gt

I've had that problem in the past and it was either heat, power, or drivers issues. If it's none of those return the card because you've eliminated 95% of possible "what if's" and it's not worth the hassle and hair pulling. Get a new card, the manufacturers know there's plenty of defective cards that hit the market.
