Hello my fellow soompiers, I am pretty sure there isn't a thread like this but if there is please tell me =P.

So do you think middle school kids should date? Why or why not?

I say no: I can't think of much that will come out of a middle school relationship to be honest.

Post your point of views on this... Please =P. sweatingbullets.gif

It's good for practice.

Lmao, just kidding. Nah, they shouldn't even touch that subject until late High School era.
Most are still immature to even take care of themselves, let alone another human being.
Plus, they're still finding who they are, so to speak. Why put two confused little pre-teens together?

Unless life was like a Korean drama, then no.

no, we all shouldnt date till college

or even at least till graduate college actually

because we are all at this adolescence age that we think we are mature, we are really not.

It is better this way, save us all from heart breaks and drama and more focus toward our future education!

I remember when I was in middle school people would date for fun but it usually didn't last for more than a month. I guess it's ok to hang out and stuff, but nothing way too serious. Not a good thing to experience all these heartbreak at a young age.=P

Kids are still going through puberty, dammit!

I don't think age matters all too much with dating. It's all experience for the future. My older brother who's now like 21 had a girlfriend when they were both in preschool and everyone just thought it was plain cute. It's cute little innocent feelings. But people who are in 5th grade and they claim that they're really serious about the relationship, that gets iffy. But once a person hits 12 years old they're generally grown in their brain development. Now from there everyone differs on how fast they mature and what-not. And a lot of people do actually age a bit faster with their maturity. So people shouldn't just judge people because of their age. I think everyone has a right to date. Even when I'm a parent I'd be fine with my children dating around middle school as long as they're just open and honest with me.

i agree it has a lot to do with maturity. it's ok for experience but, don't jump to crazy conclusions like marriage O.O. i met my boyfriend in middle school, liked each other, grew up together and now we're 19, still happy and in college together =). it's crazy but sometimes love is stronger than anything.

I personally think it's cute and harmless. It's usually not very serious - then a couple weeks to a month later - a mutual breakup. And those rare ones where it gets really serious, their relationship usually lasts into high school smile.gif or even further smile.gif

My cousin is in her sophmore year of college and has been dating her BF since 7th grade ^ ^

Wouldn't the argument that dating that doesn't end with marriage is useless depend on the assertion that the sole purpose of dating is for marriage? People who don't want to marry or never marry date all the same regardless of age, so I'd propose that dating is actually about the experience of finding and being with someone that you are romantically attached to. You don't have to date just for the purpose of getting married. After all, people in high school date all the time, but a very small percentage of high school romances end with marriage. If dating is about feeling close and connected with someone you love then why should there be an age limit on it? If anything, dating should be prohibited in high school because that's when universities get to see the grades from and dating is notorious for distracting kids from their schoolwork. As far as I can tell, I can't see any particular reason why middle schoolers shouldn't be allowed to date.

I personally think even a 4 year old already knows what what kind of a guy she wants, already into love. So I don't see why not.

No I dont agree. I still think is is very young. And the kids dont really know what they are doing.
I mean they may try, but it does end up being very awkward.
The relationships I see are so awkward and they dont know what they are doing.
I just think it is way to soon.
The shortest relationship I saw in my school was 4 hours. Ok good job there. LOL!
The longer you wait the better. You just mature better in my opinion.
Any what is the guy going to do, pick you up in his car to go somehwere??
haha just dont think so. And the longer you wait the more you can enjoy your innocence.
I mean to just hang with friends or family instead of being in an idle relationship I think is great.
Because once you start dating its all different. Just be friends, ya know?
And all these people who get older and regret being so silly when they were young.
I mean im not saying start dating when you like 50, but 16 is a good age.~~

To really experience life, you need a couple of heartbreaks. It is not bad to feel things.
Even really heavy things like heartbreak. If I never experience it, I will be dissapointed.
And who says you only need to focus on education. A bit lonley dont you think?

well it all depends, when you date in middle school, you get experience in my point of view.
i know a few couples who dated in middle school[6th] and are still together in high school[11th]. soo it really depends on the person lol.

i learned a lot of things from dating in middle school. like what to do and not what to do etcc

I think it is s t u p i d.
Some kid in the 7th grade told me, age is nothing, they're a bunch of numbers.
OK, I get that, but it's the amount of maturity.
In middle school, it's a bunch of bull-crap immature feelings called CRUSHES.
Bf / Gf relationships are about understanding each other and feeling something
special, not just liking each other and wanting to know you have someone to hold hands with. -0-

It is experience, but why don't we just hold up to experience it in our first 2 years of high school?
STILL FRESH AS hell.
