Reading Week is a week long break in the middle of winter term
Not sure if they have it in the US, but Canadian universities do this because our winter vacation is a week shorter than yours (and we all need a break
)
I think I will be working on assignments and dissecting primary literature research papers involving plant genetics, unless I can take a random trip somewhere

Last year I stayed at school and got caught up on schoolwork. I have tests and essays and a presentation that I already know about the week after Reading Week, so those are what I'll be using Reading Week to prepare for again this year. It's not really worth it for me to go all the way back home to the U.S. for less than a week when I'll get more done and save money by staying here. A lot of my friends were still around during Reading Week last year and some live in the area, anyway, so Reading Week is pretty quiet but not totally dead. But I don't really think of Reading Week as much of a break. I think of it the same way I think of the week before exams and spend it mostly studying.
Also, my friends at U.S. schools almost all have more like TWO weeks more winter break than I did, damn them.
Not to mention that Canadian schools only get ONE day off for Thanksgiving, since it's a Monday here instead of a Thursday and that's the only day we get off: the day itself.

Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

Haha weird, reading week.
Canadian huh?
We don't have reading week in the USA, but we have reading day at my college.
It's the day before the finals. Where everyone goes to the library for last minute studies.
I dunno about other colleges...

My winter break was 17 days... not sure how you get a week shorter than that o.O
We have "dead week" before exams in spring and fall, technically there's supposed to be no homework, but most professors say at the beginning of the semester, "either we have dead week with no homework and you do double homeworks for two weeks, or we ignore dead week and you get a better paced class." Everyone goes for the second option =/

^depends on what program you're in haha. i'm a humanities student and i got a whole month off for winter vacation since all my exams were in-class, before the winter break starts(dec. 5th). everyone's winter break starts on the 5th, but some students have exams during the winter break, so really most of their winter break is spent studying for those exams. once those exams are done, they end up only having maybe 1-2 weeks off =(.
for reading week, i'll be...actually reading haha. wont be going anywhere and i'll most likely use that week to catch up in classes.

Mine was 16 days of break... and only because my last exam (unlike my friends in Engineering) was not on the last day of examinations (which was a Saturday). One year we had exams up to the 23rd of December. THAT was crazy
I stopped believing.
