Happy Birthday NANAKA! ^^

I'm so sorry for the late translation... I had tests and projects.. anyway, I translated part 1 : )
I will post the other half of the translation later..

Brightly Point of BRIGHT

1. VOICE
BRIGHT is a vocal group of girls all from Osaka prefecture and the average age is 17 years old.
Before debut, they did street lives mainly in kyoto for about a year; many pedestrians were attracted by their open and sweet heart and strong, talented vocals.
The four members are MEG、MI-MI、NANAKA、and NAGI.
And so, we will introduce you the girls and their wonderful song style/ vocal character.

Q1:Tell us each member's singing part/ description of voice.

NAGI MI-MI and NANAKA are mezzo. MI-MI's voice is husky but a little warm. Back in the old days, her voice was more huskier. NANAKA's voice is very clear and strong. Also, her falsetto voice is the highest of among the four members. MEG is the lead soprano. From long ago, MEG's actual voice was high, so she was even called ultrasound girl (haha). I think her voice matches well with cute songs, not that of a boy before maturity. Also, her words are very clear so it is very easy to hear each syllable she is saying. I, NAGI, am the lead alto.

NANAKA, and NAGI's voices are the strongest and most powerful among us four. Their powerful long tones make their vocals unique. Like in many gospel's "fake", where you raise your voice a lot and "fake" with each other, NAGI really likes that.

Q2:Tell us the songs that each member's vocals shines in!

I really love MI-MI NAGI's voices "Stay". The intro's long tones and the ending's powerful long tones have a NAGI feel to it. Also, it's not a long tone but I also like NAGI's voice in "My Girl".

I think NAGI and MI-MI especially match with "Missin' U". MI-MI sings the last part and I especially like the high notes she sang.

I think NANA's cute, sweet voice was lively in "itumademo..." . MEG's actual voice when not singing is already pretty high so in the part "the shining two~" in "Tears", we three were saying "wow so high~!!". (lol)

MEG and NANAKA's clear voice shined in "Brightest Star". Also in the last part of "Free Your Mind", the high part is also another part we definitely recommend you to listen to. haha, we're kind of praising ourselves...

2. FRIENDSHIP
The four members of BRIGHT are all close friends since elementary school. They went to the same lessons, supported each other, had fun with each other, sometimes shared tears, and improved their skills in dance and singing. It is because of the hard work and happiness they experienced together that a strong bond was born. "BRIGHT is always one."

Q3:Tell us the BRIGHT members' roles in the group!

MEG and MI-MI are the mothers and NAGI is the father. NAGI is a loud father (lol) but is the supportive pillar of BRIGHT. NANAKA is the older sister and MEG is the youngest daughter (baby). We chose the age order by their mental age (lol). NANAKA is actually younger than me but she is mature because she is active as live MCs, etc.

NAGI and MEG are the mood makers. NANAKA is the 4D, or weird/funny one so she is the mood maker that is fun to play with (lol). MI-MI is down to earth, intelligent and mature but stubborn. She helps manage/support the group's emotional side.

Q4:Aside from yourself, what do you think of each member?

NAGI
MEG gives me confidence. Because MEG says what she really thinks, I get confidence when she says “great job.” NANAKA is the one I can discuss love problems with. I’m older than her but NANAKA supports me when it comes to love. MI-MI supports me in other things. She’s the same age as me but she is helpful and reliable.

MI-MI

NANAKA is the little sister. NAGI is the one I can have serious discussions with; in the future, I can see her as my drinking mate (lol). Of course I’ve never drank alcohol because of my age. MEG is the one I have been with the longest and we can be very crazy together.

MEG
MIMI understands me the best. She understands even without talking, and even if I don’t say anything she supports me; she is a strong existence.
NAGI is a strong person whom I can discuss matters with. She leads me. NANAKA is the one I goof around with. In places like hotels, we are ones who are silly the most and NANAKA and I are the “goofy/naughty” ones (lol).

NANAKA

MEG and I get along well, and when we hang out, I always have fun with her.
I talk about my love problems with NAGI. We know and understand each other’s love problems well. MIMI is not my enemy rival. it seems like we are friendly rivals. We don’t say in words but in our minds we think “Let’s do this! We can do this together!” So we have special mind/eye connections.
Q5:Tell us about your most memorable moments with your members!

NAGI
I think it was when we were in third or fourth grade, before BRIGHT was produced. That was when MEG and I worked together. At first we thought we didn’t like each other. We distanced each other.
Well, our moms were having a telephone conversation and they were saying “She doesn’t hate MEG” “ really? I thought she wasn’t really liked by NAGI” and they told us about that. After that MEG and I talked on the phone and cried (lol). After that we started getting along with each other, as if the uncomfortable feelings were a lie. If that didn’t happen, I may have not been in BRIGHT.

MI-MI
NANAKA and I always had sleep overs. When NANAKA was in sixth grade and I was in 2nd year of middle school, she came over to my house. The next day we had nothing to do and we didn’t have a lot of money so we decided to ride to the nearby park on our bicycles. Just aside from the street, there’s a railroad track that you can get in. We named that place “Happy Ice Cream” (lol) and made it our secret fort. We played together, sang together,… The thoughts and feelings we had is what our song “Itsumademo…” is about.

MEG
MIMI and I are childhood friends. When we were in upper elementary grades, MIMI, another child, and I decided to enter a dance contest. So we practiced Janet Jackson’s “ ALL FOR YOU” together every day at the park until late at night. But then, when we went to the contest, nobody brought the music (lol). Thus we couldn’t enter the contest and we were scolded by our mothers, and we got an award for entering a contest (everyone who enters gets that) , and we went home sad. All three of us were always dependent on someone and went on our own paces. After that BRIGHT was produced and now NAGI is the one responsible for bringing the music. (lol). It was good that we met a responsible NAGI (lol).

NANAKA
NAGI and I really discuss and talk about our love life; we even talked about love on NAGI’s house roof top. A long time ago, NAGI liked someone, and when she was about to decide whether or not to confess to that boy, we cried for about 30 minutes. For a long time NAGI was hesitant whether or not confess to that boy and at the last minute she was about to but then gave up. I knew that person so I tried to comfort her by saying “That kind of person wouldn’t be able to make NAGI happy” “There are other good people”. NAGI finally was able to get over it and said something like “NANAKA was there for me so I’m ok.” The youthful days (lol).

Q6:”BRIGHT is not one without the four of us”. Why?

MI-MI
It is because of us four that we can say what we truly feel. Even if we are harshly told “No, it’s this way!”, we can think of it positively that they are saying for my/our sake. It is because it is us four that we don’t have an awkward hesitation; thus we can produce something even better. And so, in good terms, we four have a special relationship in which we can fight.

NANAKA
Rather than being all the same at the same pace, we four walk different roads following and leading each other. Thus, it is for my own benefit, the other three’s benefit, and for BRIGHT. The other three complement what I don’t have. MEG can do this, MI-MI can do that, NAGI can do this. Then, what can I do? It’s like… I have that so I’ll try my best; I might be able to do what MI-MI does so I’ll try. Like that, we four complement each other and are able to accept and affect each other. If four of us are together, nothing is scary. We gain confidence that we can overcome any hardships together.

3. HARMONY: It is because of the strong bonds these best friends have that such a melodic harmony is produced; that is BRIGHT’s beauty. Ever since they could remember, they sang gospel. They perform professionally their own original songs and foreign music like one of 1st single, Eternal’s “Stay” and 2nd single En Vogue’s “Free Your Mind”. BRIGHT’s choruses are so beautiful because of their emotional singing.

Q7: What are some chorus groups that made an impact on you? What do you like about that group?

NAGI
I love Destiny’s Child’s choruses in “Emotion”, “If”… In “If”, the following choruses are basic but I love that simplicity. In “Emotion” I think the three’s voices harmonizes so well.

MI-MI
Destiny’s Child. Back Street Boys. In Japan, the Gospellers. I love the harmonized voices of the three singers. I love “Stand Up for Love” and BRIGHT covered that song for practice.

MEG
“Waterfalls” by TLC. The video clip of three people standing side by side singing in the ocean made an impact on me. After BRIGHT was made I watched this video; I thought that formation of standing side by side (like how we have done before) and singing the chorus is cool.

NANAKA
“Emotion” by Destiny’s Child. I love the chorus that goes on time with the vibrate. I love ‘Emotion” the best because the song really makes an impression of a chorus.

Brightly Point of BRIGHT translation part 2

Q8: What do you think is important when doing choruses?

MI-MI
It’s to harmonize and follow each other’s pace. For us it’s easier to sing when we form a half-circle. We can see each other faces and understand each other while singing. Long ago, we heard that other artists ran laps in the studio while practicing choruses, to make all members’ feelings become one without having a hard time breathing when singing. And so BRIGHT also practiced that way frequently.

MEG
It’s to listen to people’s singing.
Being on tune of course, and also the voice quality, the emotions in a song, the timing of singing, etc. Those depend on the type of song but you have to synchronize your voice with the main character of a song. In a song the melody is the main so to get the chorus to be “alive”, you need the main part to be “alive”. Synchronize with the other people who are singing and do your part correctly.

Q9:What do you think is the beauty of “I’ll Be There”?

NAGI
In a part all four of us sing the melody, and that was BRIGHT’s first time. Also, in number 2, there’s a lot of parts where we harmonize and I think this song is one of the most gospel-like song that we have done.

NANAKA
Usually we think we have to bring out the solo when we harmonize but in this song everyone has a solo. The solos and the choruses all have the same effort put in. Also, from number 2, there is A melody and B melody that chase the solo with a chorus of the same words. I think you can see the uniqueness of the chorus.

4. DANCE

The four girls started dance lessons before beginning vocal lessons, so dance is important in performances. They all say that dance and singing are partners. In most music videos there are dance scenes and on stage the girls elegantly and boldly dance. The four girls entertain the audiences.

Q10:Which video clip’s dance scene was impressive?

NAGI
Janet Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation”. It was at a school’s presentation. During elementary school, we mainly did jazz dance so that type of dancing which we have never done, had made a huge impact on us. Also Destiny’s Child’s “Lose My Breath”. I love it; I really like the scene where it’s 3 girls VS. 3 girls.

MI-MI
Britney Spears’ “Me Against The Music featuring Madonna”. I was amazed watching the movements in the scene where Britney Spears chases Madonna in a labyrinth. Also, those two’s kiss scene. I saw it when I was in first year of Middle school so that was a huge impression lol.

MEG
Chris Brown’s “Kiss Kiss featuring T-Pain”. They did spins on top of buses, danced with a group of people in a gymnasium, etc. Also I like how Justin Timberlake dances. The facial expressions and even hand positions are also part of a dance’s choreography; Justin Timberlake does those beautifully.

NANAKA
I love Destiny’s Child’s “Lose My Breath”. Beyonce’s fierce face when she was having a battle was cool. I also like Justin Timberlake’s dance. He does dance that has a clean sharp pop~rock dance and I don’t really do those much but I like it.

Q11:What do you pay attention most about your own choreography/dance?

NAGI
When I dance, I pay attention to how I express for different songs. BRIGHT has done jazz, rock, tap, girls hip hop, house, etc but I’m strong at hip hop, so I make sure I show the power and liveliness in dancing.

MI-MI
When I dance I pay careful attention to everything to my finger tips. I like jazz dance. I also like ballet-type dance so I try to be careful to show the gracefulness, the beauty of body lines rather than power.

MEG
My height is different from the other three so I think for me it’s important to make a balance with our hip positions. My specialty in dance is jazz and girls hip hop. I like feminine dances more. When I dance I want to show beauty and the cute atmosphere of a woman.

NANAKA
I pay particular attention to flexibility/softness. Also facial expressions. I synchronize my facial expressions with the song and I also want to express it through dancing. For example, if I were to clap my hands, I think over if that sound was an angry sound or a happy sound; I try to be careful to show that through expressions.

5. SING
The four girls have the experience/ability to be called soloists and their golden harmony makes many admire BRIGHT. The girls never forget to sing even if it’s break time during recording sessions, tv recording, transporting. Their songs have captured many hearts.

R&B singer K was also surprised!

One of the people who admire BRIGHT’s vocals is K, who collaborated with the girls in the recent single “Tegami (letter)”. What did he find admirable about BRIGHT during recording session?
“I felt that the girls have no fear or hesitation about singing. Even when we were recording together, even in the lobby they were singing; I was awed that their passion for singing is very strong.

BRIGHT’s vocals are GPS signals!?

According to the girls’ hair and makeup stylists who are always with the girls, BRIGHT are always singing in their dress rooms. If one girl starts humming, the other members start harmonizing to that. “You can always hear singing from BRIGHT’s dressroom so you can always reach their room without getting lost lol.”

A live of tears from the times they overcame hardships!

The street live back in 2007 at the shopping streets in kyouto. Even thought he girls had permission from the shopping center to perform lives, the nearest shop owner complained on the girls’ first live. The BRIGHT members themselves talked to the owner to get permission and after a year of small activities, they even became great acquaintances with that shop owner. The took a memorable picture for their tearful graduation live.

With only one tape player 300 audiences!

The girls did street lives with only one tape player+ live singing without a mic. It was at a shopping center so when it came to holiday seasons, it was hard for the girls because the loud shouts and music for advertising would make the lives hard to listen to. The most hard to hear is the MC. So, the girls wrote “We are BRIGHT” “The next song is…” on sketch note pads by themselves. Then, about 300 people started to gather around them. In the end, they stopped the live because it was hard to see with the huge wall of audiences. However, the street llves taught the girls the difficulty and beauty of communicating with people.

Practice time: 10 hours without break!

It was their first time performing for A-nation back in 2007. The day before performing, the girls finished rehearsals that started at 9:00 am and then after that they critiqued their rehearsal that was recorded on video. At one point they decided to look over once again carefully; they put the desks in the dress room to the side and practiced once again. They danced and sang and every time said “One more time!”… in the end, practice ended at 8:00 pm. The next morning’s live staff were surprised, saying “Huh? You guys were still here?” Even if it’s only 12 minutes of performing, they end up practicing until they were satisfied, which was 10 hours!

BRIGHT made an outstanding live performance the next day.

Track makers who work with many artists like Kouda Kumi said they guarantee them!

STY is the creator who produced BRIGHT’s “My Girl”, “Girls Party Time”, etc.
He is one of the people whose hearts were captured by BRIGHT; he said that the four girls have a strong base and style so I am able to enjoy and become serious in working with them. He admires BRIGHT’s vocal talents, expressions, and flexibility. “If you suddenly say ‘Let’s put an adlib here’ or ‘let’s change the melody here a little bit,’ they can immediately be prepared for recording sessions somewhat similar to lives. Even more than that, they react quickly and have backups.” When producing a song, “everyone is talented in dancing and we already know they will perform a song with a dance on stage so we make beats according to that,” said STY.
“Each individual has an unique voice so it is interesting and fun to find where their personalities is showcased well the best. As a creator, that kind of recording is adventurous but also stimulating.

The four girls are Natural Born Singers. Natural Born Singstar. MI-MI once wrote that on her blog. “If we were to choose from ‘not being able to sing’ and ‘not being able to speak’, we would choose ‘not being able to speak’.”
Now, we will ask BRIGHT a deep question.

Q12:What does “music” mean to you?

NAGI
Music is your partner in life. It is a necessity in life. If I lost music, I wouldn’t know what to do. It’s like… something you want to hold onto until you die.. if I lost it, I’ll die away. music supports me like a pillar.

MI-MI
music is a part of you. I don’t think about what’ll happen if music was gone. If I were told to stop singing or stop listening to music one day, I would try to run away full speed. Even in school, I accidentally start singing. It’s like if I’m daydreaming, my mouth is moving.

MEG
Music is what gave me a dream. If there were no music, I wouldn’t have my dream and wouldn’t know what to do in the future. Also, music constantly changes so that’s what also helps me grow up. Listening, singing songs: I like both. From now on too I’ll work for my dream with music.

NANAKA
It is something important as my life. music can be used to tell your feelings to a person and for me I can express myself only with music. If I were to compare it to something ordinary, then it would be the air. You always need air to live but it is something part of you that is so ordinary you don’t really realize it. It is something of nature that just comes but it is the most important thing.

QUOTE (diru @ Jan 19 2009, 08:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Gave these girls a try so I downloaded em and am currently listening to the last track on the Notes 4 You album.

I have to be honest their music is quite alright and vocally they're pretty good but some of the songs from the first half of the album are a little off to me. I guess it'll just have to take time for me to like those. The other half of the album however, I really do like cause it really shows their vocal range.

I'll Be There, You Were Mine, 恋をして and Brightest Star~Unplugged~ are probably my favourite tracks on that album.

hi where did you download there songs?http://www.soompi.com/forums/style_images/1/folder_post_icons/icon1.gif

I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure.
I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle.
But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.
