so ive decided (for now) that the car i plan to obtain in the next 5 months is a `05 (for insurance reasons) pikes pearl white 350z:

but here is my problem:
-i want a manual.
-Im moving to L.A. (Santa Monica area) after i get the car...

is traffic there going to be a problem with a manual?
ive heard some horror stories...
but i dont want to part with a manual.

should i just bite the bullet and get an...automatic? crazy.gif

what do u guys think?

if I were getting a 350z I'd get a manual...

if you really want a manual, get a manual.

You just have to constantly shift when you're in traffic with manual. Hills are also a problem.

Do you already know how to drive stick?
If you don't yet, I suggest you practice driving on a beater car before you hop on the Z. :]

get a manual because almost everyone who bought a sports car with an AT transmission regrets it 3-4 months later and wants to kick themselves (ie. me) and ultimately begins to look for the same car with a manual transmission or a different car with a manual transmission.

It's complicated with traffic with the constant pausing but I say just go for the manual; you'll end up regretting it big time in the future anyway.

If you are really dedicated, then get the manual. Dealing with traffic and hills doesn't have to be the horror story that you heard about. I live in San Francisco and i've driven manual before (long long time ago) and I figured out how to handle stop and go on hills easily (ebrake for holding on hills). It was fun to learn manual back then...

In the long run though, I personally prefer automatic, and thats what i've been driving so far and I don't regret it... and the car is still pretty quick.

I hate traffic, and I hate LA traffic even more. I would get an automatic if you commute often during peak hours.

Right now I'm debating if my next car is going to be an automatic or not. I think it all depends on where my job will be. Best case is to have two cars, but not many people can afford to do that nor willing to.

Well I drive on the 5, 10, 210, 605, and sometimes 405. The 10 gets packed quite often, but I still drive my manual. I gotta tell you, it gets quite annoying during peak hours.

if you are a true enthusiast, then you wont mind the manual during traffic.

driving manual for me is like my 6th sense, so i dont mind driving it in traffic at all.

i drive 2 hours on the 405 -55-91 from oc to riverside through traffic 2-3 times a week. manual isn't bad, once you do it long enough it becomes second nature and you don't even think about it.

Hills shouldn't be a problem since modern manual transmission cars are starting to come with hill-start assist (holds brakes for 1 second after u lift foot off brake pedal).
