during winters here, the air inside my apt becomes really dry so it's easy to build up a lot of charge. then, whenever i touch something metallic i get shocked ><

does anyone else have this problem? is there a shockless way to get rid of the charge? usually i just force myself to get up from work once in a while to discharge, but it's so torturous >< i always get scared when i have to force myself to touch the metal plate on the lightswitch haha even though it doesn't even really hurt... ><

AND has anyone used this to their advantage? like shuffle across the floor and shock your brother/sister/parents/unfortunate guest? no one around here does it; i might have to try it on my roommate tonight ^^;

Yeah I build up static pretty good, always get it on car doors and I can sometimes hear popping sounds when I brush my hair, its pretty cool though. As for discharging it, I just transfer to the poor soul nearest to me. The ear is the best place.

=P The most paintful place to discharge it on someone else is the tip of their elbow.
(My physics teacher taught me that)

I hate that. At my school we have a computer pod only for our year level. It's carpeted and it gets really... uh... static-y in there. There is always this one girl who goes around rubbing her shoes on the carpet and then shocks people. It's so annoying. dry.gif

I don't really know about static electricity because I hate Physics!
Whenever I'm close to my cousin who wears a watch on either hand, I'll get minor shock if I'm in contact with her skin.
The thing is, if she wears it on the right wrist, I'll get a shock even on her left arm.
& vice versa.

One day, whenever my bf and I got anywhere near each other, we'd shock each other. I told him to stay 5 feet away from me at all times, but he kept coming over to shock me. Even when he kissed me, it would shock me laugh.gif It got pretty annoying, but we got a good laugh out of it.

Static electricity shocks are actually high voltage. As soon as your body accumulates the charge and you touch something metal or something grounded, you feel that zap as all the excess charge jump or arcs from your body. Don't remember too clearly from physics...

Static electricity is also known to destroy electronic equipment. So becareful not to zap those electronics...

yea, it's annoying.
I was petting my cat that other time and we shocked each other. -___-

I also hate it when my hair 'floats' due to the static. When that happens, I apply haircream in my hair.

Yeah, I get it a lot in the winter, too.
In fact, I get it all the time when I brush my hair.
It's just during winter when I hear all of the pop, pop, pops.
