since i edit and make videos, i just use sony vegas to crop my ringtones.
any movie-making software works for cropping music... it's like a multiple-use thing.
even the default crappy windows movie maker works fine. (:

Audacity is the place to be for simple music editing. I would have originally said Windows Movie Maker but you can't really cut audio to what you precisely want it to be. Plus it's just not overall great with audio.

I used phonezoo.com (:
It's really good and works well
I've used it for a while and would def recommend it

Phonezoo is web based, so no downloading recquired.
You sign up, give them your phone number and that's it.
They won't text your or call you at all.
You upload a song (.mp3) and edit it on the site
Simple changes of course, like volume, length, fade etc
And then you click 'send to phone'
and the ringtone gets sent to you in the form of a multimedia message
(which is the only time they will text you)
and from the text message you simply save as ringtone (:

I use Cooledit pro, just cut and paste the part I want as my ringtone and save it.

Er..It's pretty easy for my phone since I can use mp3 files as ringtones.
