No matter what I do, I can't seem to get good mark at English. Anyway, is there like a site where I can improve my writing skills?

Going back to can't seem to get a good mark, I can get good marks in other courses because I know what to study and what to expect in a project. However, English does not follow the same pattern as other courses so I can't understand how English is mark. The rubric in English project are all like Articulation and such. So, help please.

Reading a lot helps.

As for the projects, "articulation"? As in the speaking part? That just takes practice.

Read things a little bit above you're reading level. Because you could read comics all day, ant not really improve at all.

reading + talking will hope the most with vocab and speaking skills, respectively
but if youre talking essays and whatnot, i dont think theres much you can do. writing style just improves over time.
but reading will definitely help :]

reading and writing helps.
i do stuff like writing fanfics and stuff to help me become a better writer.
also, you can challenge yourself by reading higher level books to help you comprehend better.

for articulation, practice in front of the mirror and talk to yourself.
or you can read a book out loud. usually helps a lot happy.gif

good luck!

-Hang out with people that you can speak constantly in English.
-In oral, speak with intonation: put an emphasis on what you want people to remember. Don't be afraid to raise your voice. You have to be clear in your word. (Usually, I don't speak out loud but in oral, I raise my voice so everyone knows what I'm talking about.)
-Learn more about rhetoric: the art of speech... (http://www.americanrhetoric.com/)
-Watching movies with subtitles XD
-As the others said, reading helps a lot. It doesn't have to be a book of 1000 pages. Get a kid book and read. Then slowly you can change the level.
-You can study the dictionary but I'm afraid that you might get bored after reading the one page.
-Revise your grammar.
-Use a thesaurus to replace a repetitive word. Make sure it has the similar meaning. Also, at the same time, you learn a new word.

Oh yeah in essays, logical connectors are essential!

Most importantly, if you have an English teacher, you can ask him or her to help you out as well.

^ I agree. I remember in high school, I'd get 70s with this one teacher and she'd mark up my papers in red. Then I had this other teacher who would give me straight As all the time. Some teachers just have different ways of grading things.

As for improving - you can try asking your teacher after class what you can do to improve. If you don't want to do that, then you can also try going to the library and asking the librarian for a book on how to improve your writing/communication skills. I remember this one girl in my high school who wrote like she was still in 3rd grade. After a few months of reading those "how to" books from the library, her writing improved substantially.

I hope that helps~
