What A/V resources do you have? Try to include a slide-show and a short video clip or two, and spend the last 10 minutes doing a trivia quiz based on what you've just talked about with a few Japanese treats as prizes.

If you know the language, you can teach them hiragana!!!
That will take a long time for sure with colourful flashcards, and then simple sentences *^^*
And like the above poster, give them a bunch of treats from Japan~~~~ or,, atleast, just Japanese treats is fine too^^ and you can also teach them how to fold origami... but I dont know if they're into that...it's 9/10graders anyhow.. or you can teach them how to roll simple sushi???? and they can bring some home for their family to try ^^

when i was back home in the US, i talked to some 3rd graders about japan.
basically i did what i do here in japan: i made a powerpoint.
if you have been to japan, you can talk about that.
when i talk to japanese middle schoolers i talk about our schools, food, what's popular, and some info on the country (money, number of states, etc).
start off with a quick intro of japan: population, size (about the size of cali)...
schools: what kids study (if you know)...
if you can use youtube, search for "jinnai tomonori". he's a comedian, and a few of his videos are subtitled in english.
other popular comedians are: kojima yoshio, nishioka sumiko, oriental radio
popular foods: ramen, tonkatsu, curry rice, mcdonalds...

I remember in high school when I was taking Japanese, my Japanese teacher had a friend of hers come visit. They taught us how they start and end class everyday (the bowing and what not). Lol and then she taught us for those of you who know your katakana ... you know the character for Ho right? Well, basically she explained how she memorized her katakana.. for some reason it seems harder to memorize katakana than hiragana but anyways, basically that if you put 2 more lines it looks like a girl with her legs spread open as in "ho" LOL. I was kinda thinking .. are you allowed to teach us this? .....
Teach them about tradition and the festivals they have in japan and stuff and maybe make examples of what they do at these festivals etc. Wear a kimono to class... teach them how to wear one and what not. Well, that's assuming you have one. Lol. Candy is always good too.

Some say i'm a genius, others say i'm crazy
but they all say i'm a little on the weird side
