So I assume that the majority of your parents/caregivers taught you your other language and english when you were little.

1. What's your mother tounge?
2. What age did you start learning/was spoken to in another language?
3. What language did they speak to you the most of the time?
4. When you were outside of your household, what language did they speak to you then?
5. In forms of entertainment, what language did you listen/watch/read the most? (Korean books, english tv shows..)
6. When you were with family (cousins, aunts..), what language was spoken then?
7. If english is your 2nd tounge, did you learn the majority of english at school?
8. Would you say that you're very good at writing, listening and communicating in both languages?
9. What language are better at (As listed above)?
10. Do you think the location of where you lived affected the way you spoke one of your languages?
11. And today, what language do your parents/caregivers speak to you most of the time?
12. Got an accent?
13. Are your parents/caregivers fluent in english?

I'm pretty curious because if I have children, then I want to teach them 2 languages, but I'm not excatly sure how to balance it out.. '_'. I have friends who tell me, "Man I used to understand ---- and I forgot it all! D:" Then there's the other friends who can speak, write, and understand both fluent and another language.

AND for those who didn't learn from their parents/caregiver..

1. Birth tounge?
2. What are the other languages you can speak?
3. For how long?
4. How did you learn them?
5. How fast did you learn?
6. When did you started learning them?
7. Where did you start learning them?
8 .If you were placed in that country for a day, would you survive, language barrier wise?
9. Got any friends/family who speak the same language(s) as you?
10. For pronounciation purposes, how do you practice?
11. For learning new vocabulary, what do you use?
12. If so, do you think that listening to the music/watching dramas/etc is helping you?
13. Can you easily spell out/hear the unfamiliar foreign names when first heard?

Yup, for my own/perhaps others benefit.

By the way............. anyone care to tell me what a "kool aid" is? I think its part of the soompi swear filter but i don't know what word.

1. What's your mother tounge?
Cantonese

- How did your parents/caregiver mix your other language and english into your everyday life? -
I speak a mixture of Cantonese and Cantonese at home. I learned Cantonese through TVB dramas and English in school & at home. I also speak a third language fluently and it was compulsory for me to take - for 12 years - because it's my country's official language,

2. What age did you start learning/was spoken to in another language?
Cantonese & English - when I started talking.
"Other Language" - pre-school.

3. What language did they speak to you the most of the time?
Cantonese + English. Cantonese for more trivial matters e.g. Eating, Bathing, etc and English for deep conversations. (:

4. When you were outside of your household, what language did they speak to you then?
Again, Canto + English.

5. In forms of entertainment, what language did you listen/watch/read the most? (Korean books, english tv shows..)
English books/movies/songs, Cantonese movies and dramas, and Korean songs.

6. When you were with family (cousins, aunts..), what language was spoken then?
Cantonese/English

7. If english is your 2nd tounge, did you learn the majority of english at school?
No, I learned how to speak properly by watching CNN and reading novels/books.

8. Would you say that you're very good at writing, listening and communicating in both languages?
Unfortunately, I can't write/read Chinese. BUT, a lot of my friends can so it's not impossible. I'm still learning. (:

9. What language are better at (As listed above)?
English.

10. Do you think the location of where you lived affected the way you spoke one of your languages?
Yes.

11. And today, what language do your parents/caregivers speak to you most of the time?
Cantonese/English.

12. Got an accent?
Everyone has an accent -_______-

13. For fun.. what is it?
Singlish - though I no longer stay there.
Best, you've got to be the best. You've got to change the world.
And use this chance to be heard. Your time is now.

1. What's your mother tounge?
Cantonese, but I'm way better in English than Cantonese now.

- How did your parents/caregiver mix your other language and english into your everyday life?
Lol... my Mom basically ALWAYS speaks Cantonese to me at home. We never ever have had stretches of conversations
in English. Only a couple English words thrown here and there for things we can't describe in Chinese. Although my Mom
does know English.

2. What age did you start learning/was spoken to in another language? My Mom never speaks to me in English. But around the age 3-4 I had to go to pre-school. I didn't know how to talk to the other teachers and kids though because I didn't really know much English... gradually I learned from the other kids though
3. What language did they speak to you the most of the time? Mom still speaks Cantonese. But it was English at pre-school always
4. When you were outside of your household, what language did they speak to you then? Cantonese
5. In forms of entertainment, what language did you listen/watch/read the most? Mostly English up till around 7th grade when I got into Asian music/entertainment. Plus my Mom got her hands on some Hong Kong TVB dramas around that time. But for the television it's alllll English.
6. When you were with family (cousins, aunts..), what language was spoken then? Chinese; most of my relatives are either living in Hong Kong or all speak Chinese in America.

7. If english is your 2nd tounge, did you learn the majority of english at school?
I guess so, gradually at the age 3-4 you just start to pick up on English when everyone around you is speaking English. I never had to do ESOL classes before, so English was easily learned.

8. Would you say that you're very good at writing, listening and communicating in both languages? I can communicate and listen in Cantonese, but practically can't write Chinese at all. English I'm all good at. xD
9. What language are better at (As listed above)? English
10. Do you think the location of where you lived affected the way you spoke one of your languages? Probably a little... I don't know as much Cantonese as someone who is properly learned in it. I only know common-speak Cantonese, not proper structure (by proper, I mean it is read the same structure it would be for Mandarin)
11. And today, what language do your parents/caregivers speak to you most of the time? Still Cantonese :]
12. Got an accent? Nope. (I tend to once in a blue moon get tongue-twisted though? LOL - like a tendency for words to just come out my mouth mispronounced unintentionally)

Haha I've also thought about how I'm going to make my children in the future know both Cantonese and English... (although my Cantonese is already a bit limited as it is, meaning my children will know even less?! T_T) I think the way to make sure your children don't forget their ethnic language is to just keep speaking to them in that language every day at home. You really don't have to worry about them not learning English if you're going to live in America. As for writing... that may be a little harder to maintain (especially if it's Chinese! lol) and you may need to send your kids to classes unless you start teaching them how to write in that language at a young age and possibly consistently make them read a newspaper in that language every once in a while.
