I think he likes me, but maybe not enough? Guys and gals, advice please.

We're in different schools. It's holidays now and we meet 2x a week to study. We don't have to study together, but he's the one who initiates the study sessions.
He's a quiet serious guy who doesn't talk much...doesn't text often, but each text is pretty long.
We text each other daily, abt 6 texts/day.

Through his texts, he compliments me, like telling me I'm pretty, but it's always followed with an insult which makes me wonder if it was meant as a compliment or just a joke.

He never looks at me straight in the eye.


So which of the 3 do you guys think it is
-he's shy
- he's likes me a bit but not enough
- i'm just his buddy.

Sounds like he likes you a bit. Could you show us an example of a compliment followed with an insult? Because while some insults are just pure fun, others can be just plain mean..

I'm a girl and I do that sometimes. I hate sounding cheesy so if I'm going to compliment someone, I'll follow it by adding an insult just to not make things awkward. But hey, you never know, he might like you and is trying not to look stupid if the feeling's not mutual.

He likes you AND he's shy.

The thing about guys is that they will never open up to you unless they know for sure that you're interested too.
So if you haven't really been giving him any hints of interest, he's probably not going to make a move until he knows for sure that its safe to take the next step.
Guys have pride and they don't want it to be crushed by a girl.
So if you have interest for this guy, give him some hints or try flirting with him. That always works

I'm pretty sure he likes you! He's just scared of you knowing that he likes you, that is why he backs up the compliment with an insult. He's just trying to get closer to you by being buddy buddy. A guy wouldn't go out of his way to initiate a study session nor text you 6 times a day!

Thanks for all the advice.
I'm thinking that he's shy too. He always lets me have my way and I've caught him looking at me when he thinks that I don't know.

I'll try flirting alittle and see how he reacts. =)

oh...and for those who asked me for examples. He says things like:
- You're very pretty but so is fiona from shrek
- You better stop eating chocolates..it makes you fat! ( but then he brings chocolates for us to share)
-chubby girls are cute. You are chubby enough.

Awww, his compliments & insults were cute but funny in a (light) mean way. LoL, in my opinion the third one, "chubby girls are cute. You are chubby enough," is adorable! :)
