Sit ups will only help build stronger abs, not really help you lose weight unless your doing hundreds and hundreds of them a day. If you want to lose some of your stomach, you will have to drop bodyfat. So yeah, best thing would be to do some cardio like jogging. Just make sure your in a caloric deficit in your diet.

Also you can't spot reduce, even if you do sit up many times and your body fat is high, it won't become visible. Also getting abs or losing the tummy is mostly made in the kitchen. You can do all the cardio and ab workout all you want but if your diet is not in check then you won't lose the fat.
But anyways, sit ups will build muscle underneath, but it will be covered underneath that layer of fat so it won't make a difference unless you change your diet.

Pretty much what she said, you could also eat five-six small meals a day to boost your metabolism instead of 3 big ones.

even a 12year old has abs
1) do some cardio training, in order to tone that body and cut down the fat
2) what kinein said, do some resistance training to get them core abdominal area nice and strong
- technically everybody already has "abs" its just hiding under that fat ( your born with that muscle there and in some cases you can see it)
3) and its not just "sit ups" nowadays we mix it up and we have a lot of very awesome techniques that will get you a strong core area along with burning that fat
- lolz who does sit ups nowadays when you can do hundreds of different types of core movements
Herpes herpes, bo-berpes, banana, fana fo-ferpes -- her-pes.

just want to add to Tedd.
The reason why you see a lot more "ripped/cut/buff" skinny sub 140lb guys is.. they don't have much muscle to begin with, what you are seeing is an absence of fat- highlighting in another way how everyone has abs but your fat outside and the fat between your organs will hide and/or diminish the visible appearance of your belly.

it'll only develop muscle UNDER the fat u already have.
ultimate way of losing fat is CARDIO!
run/elliptical/or bike.
and THEN do crunches.
