I remember back in elem. school after we ran our PE teachers always told us not to sit because all that we just worked off would go to our butts/thighs (in a bad way). So he always made us stretch and then walk around for 5 minutes before we can sit. Is it true? At the gym, I see people running and then go right to biking (sitting) or rowing machine (again, sitting). Is it bad for you?

Yes, if you're running or whatever and your heart rate is up it is bad for your heart if you stop and sit down immediately. You need a cool down phase to get your heart rate slowly back to normal so it's better to walk around a bit till your body cools down.

when i sit immediately after running, i get really nauseous because all the blood goes to my stomach.
it's because when you're standing, your blood is allowed to freely circulate. that's why people tell you not to bend over even if you're really tired. when you bend over you aren't getting enough blood to your lungs and you have a harder time breathing. you may also get a headache from the blood rush to your head. all in all, it's better to walk around for a few minutes before sitting.

this is SOOOOOOOOOOO not true lol.

oh and she made you stretch to get the lactic acid out of your muscles. (lactic acid is what makes you sore the next day after a hard workout.)

Actually lactic acid is not the cause of muscle soreness, at least according to more recent theories. The reason why they have dropped the lactic acid theory is that is actually leaves your body 30-45 minutes after working out and soreness is not felt until the day after. Many people believe now that the soreness is due to "micro-fractures" in your muscle fibers after working out. Think of them like paper cuts, painful but still usable. When you have these "fractures," chemicals are released from your body which irritate your pain receptors which causes the irritation/pain.

But back to the original subject, yes I get the same feeling after sitting down just after getting my HR up. I get light-headed and sometimes nauseous because you're blocking effective blood flow to your entire body.

Let's say a cool down feels better and helps with recovery when you are finished working out. Note : "finished" ~ if you are just doing another exercise like biking or rowing you are still working out! You can't put what your teacher said and someone still exercising together as the same thing, it is not in any way the same thing besides the body position.

I remember being told that when I was playing badminton!!! glad to find out its not true!
It's the same thing as an Asian parent telling their kid they'll get pimples if they don't eat all the rice in the bowl... just something to make the kid not do it

It won't make the fat group up, but it's VERY bad for your heart. Also bad for the muscles, they need to cool down and stretch out (hence stretching, it serves two purposes; taking time and loosening muscles).

normally after a rigorous exercise (especially cardio), its best to cool down (5 minutes). I remember my PE teacher told me after we finished my 3 mile run that its best to walk afterwards. Its not good to sit since you want your heart to cool down.

no, our coaches make us do that too.
because after u run, ur gonna be gasping for air,
if u sit down, think about it..
like your lungs arent gonna get enuff oxygen..
wenever i'm done running i put my hands locked on top of my head and walk around for about 2-3 minutes until i'm good..
i mean sitting isnt THAT bad, (laying is okay) but just dont hunch over and sit (that's the problem.
