I left my laptop in her care a year ago when I moved to a small room closer to uni. Now it'll just be an inconvenience for both of us if I take it back off her because she has never bought her own laptop, used vista, installed her own apps, or transferred settings and files before.

It's really just a general feeling I have that I'll be purchasing a netbook soon... I don't mind if the video is scaled down a bit, just as long as the video plays fluidly.

Though googling, it seems there should be some higher-res screens out soon.

For me, I can't play the HD 720p video files -- it doesn't just straight up not play, but it's really laggy and jagged(?)

That's not necessarily an issue w/ your computer... you may not have set up the right filters/shaders and all that stuff.

The atom 270 is borderline capable of playing 720p content. I would say in most cases performance isn't consistent and most of times, less than desirable. You want to experience 720p in all it's glory and not have to tweak settings to sacrifice quality for playability. Anyway, the atom 280 with hardware 720p acceleration was recently released to resolve this issue.

I want a netbook with a GOOD keyboard. like the shift key is full size below the enter key (yeah, picky me). A good trackpad (muti-touch?) and good battery life!

Others like 160GB hard drive, atom processor and window XP is important to. But I'm looking for a netbook that types well, long battery life, gets online (important, alot of time wifi never works or is slow :[ )

I'm thinking about the MSI wind, HP Mini 1000 or the Samsung NC10

Any suggestions?

I'm using NC10 and I think it fits most of your requirements. The keyboard was really easy for me to get used to.

I just got a netbook as a gift a few days ago and so far its love.
Reduces so much weight and other rooms for my books.

I have the BenQ JoyLite.
So far I don't really have any complaints since appearance-wise its cute and I haven't used it much for anything except browsing the net. How much is the average battery life for a netbook? I read some reviews on the BenQ and it said that the battery life isn't on par with other netbooks but I can get about 6 hours of life on this. Pretty good since my laptop could only give me about 2 hours max.

^ oh okay.
also, how heavy is it ? is it lightweight ?
also, for $450+ wouldnt it be cheaper to just get a regular laptop with a dvd/cd drive though?
and i'm so confused as to which on i should get, either and 8.9 inch one or a 10inch one like the samsung.. ahh i dont know theres too many choices >.>

It's kind of thick but nice and easy to carry.
And I wouldn't use a netbook by itself -- I have a normal laptop at home.
I just use my netbook for when I go to school.
Even the 10 inch one (Samsung NC10) is kind of small for me so I wouldn't advise on an even smaller one unless you really want to save your money and you're fine with a smaller screen (like you've seen it in real life and it's not bad).

What a great thread... I've also been looking into Netbooks and I was looking to get an Acer Aspire One... now I don't know... lol
I am leaning towards a MSI Wind though... any experience with it?

PM AkimotoMitsuki, sugarplum892, or pure.sophiestication for ANY S/T manners.

The MSI wind can be hacked to use Apple OS -- that's all I know about it haha
I heard it's good smile.gif

Are the fans on them loud/turn on often?

I really liked the Dell Mini because it doesn't have a fan and doesn't have a drive... and I think that's a huge plus over my current laptop where the fan is always on.

^I have the Samsung NC 10 and no loud noises coming from it.

These netbooks are so small, you shouldn't even need to worry about loud fans. But you should be concern about heat. But I suggest to stay away from the HP mini since it heats up really quick.

Your best bet is at JR.com. There is no shipping or tax if you live out of NY. I purchased mine from the site and I am satisfied with their service. The best part is, if you don't like the laptop, you can return it within 30 days without a restocking fee. Amazon charges you a 15% restocking fee if you return it.

Prices are firm with the Samsung and the chances of it going down is still slim.

just got my Asus 1000HA. My wife has the Samsung NC10. The Samsung feels just a smidge lighter....but if cost is the concern (300 for the Asus vs 450 for Sammy), the Asus seems to be a solid buy. Installed 2GB in both of them and they both work great. The only thing i've noticed so far is that the power brick for the Asus gets extremely hot while charging and that the mouse button needs to be pushed quite hard for it to click. Other than that....loving the Asus.

so i just checked amazon.com and the price for the samsung nc10 just dropped by like $6, it used to be $439 and now its $434 for the blue & white ones. but no price drop for the pink one which i have been eyeing ! >.< ughhh i guess i'll just have to wait it out for the price to go lower.
