Well how do you cheer people up?

I prefer to make them laugh then let them vent out what they feel, normally they feel better afterwords.

id hire a circus to set up tent outside their apartment so that when tey wake up they see a big ass circus with animals and rides right outside,
would have those crazy ass bears that can ride a unicycle , monkeys that fling crap at each other , that guy in a leotard who stands on the horse and rides around in circles thinking yeaaah im effin awesome.
soem bumper cars and a little carusel with that lame ass music and a candy store with all types of candy and a bouncy castle...
like who wouldnt be happy if they saw a bouncycastle right outside their door, i know i would.

Its not about how many times you fall, its about how you pick yourself up again.

listen to their problem first really empathetically. be a good listener
give them your 2 cents as delicately as possible so that they won't lash out at you
once everything is out on the table, crack a really random joke.. they'll give you a "WTF? O.o" look but at least it can get their mind off the topic for a bit

Truly understand what the opposite side is feeling first.
Sometimes you can p1ss a person off when your thinking if completely off-course.

What i'll do is just sit beside the person for a while, sync our breathing rates (and eventually heartbeats) and comfort him/her on a level that doesn't cause him/her discomfort.

Jokes are a great way, though they don't always work all the time, especially if the person is highly emotionally unstable. Getting them to accept their state first and not aggravating the "wound" would be the hardest barriers to knock down though.

i would actually be pretty sad if i saw that. poor animals. D:

i'm not very good at cheering people up, but apparently, people appreciate that i listen to them while they complain and say that it helped at least a little to let everything out. i try to make them laugh about random stuff. sometimes it works. smile.gif food is very helpful too.

I would listen to them, try to understand how they're feeling, talk to them about it and then make them laugh.

I be my blunt self. Most of the times it gives them insight and to look at the situation in another angle. If I have to, I'll say something funny and let them laugh a bit to relax. I suck at cheering people up. I am not the one to give hugs or whatsoever. I just tell what I think and most of the time it does me good. Somehow it cheers people up huh.gif

I think I suck at cheering people up too , I can't even cheer myself up >__<"
If needed though , I'd just listen to their problems like everyone says here .
Or .................... talk about random crap for hours to take their mind off whatever is worrying them ;]
Shopping always helps for girls .... for guys just listening and rambling is all I can do .

I ask them what's wrong, maybe offer a piece of what I'm eating (if I'm eating anything), listen to them rant, and after that, I make a corny joke or my own 'word of wisdom' (which comes out corny too) related to their problem, watch them laugh, and ask, "do you wanna hug ^^?"

Or I try and treat them to something~ (under $10 because I'm cheap :<)

A lot of my friends have told me that they feel better after they just let it all out and I listen.
Then after they're done, I'll usually say "Look at the bright side, you have me," but I'm not being selfish or anything, they usually laugh and say "Uh huh...[sarcasm]" lol :]

lol, i normally just listen first ^^
cuz, i kinda fail at cheering people up sometimes LOL.
like, i kinda rub it in i guess? X:
at least that's what this guy told me once =____=;
blah, i was trying to help LOL.
but yeah, depending on the situation
[like if i've been through what they've been through]
i can kinda give them advice and let them know that it'll be okay ^^
