So I'm from Texas and I have my book for my permit test and all, but if I get my permit now do I have to wait 6 months to get my license? Or can I just go on my birthday? If I don't get my permit, then what specifically do I have to do when I'm 18?

If this isn't where this question belongs, sorry! And you can delete (:

before you turn 18 you have to take drivers ed courses to get your permit. then theres a six month waiting period and there's a behind-the-wheel requirment (im not sure of the hours). after the six months are up and you've done the required hours, ,then you can go take your driving test.

if you wait until after youre 18 you can take the permit test and, if possible, take the driving test when you want. there are some benefits to waiting til youre 18.
1) you dont have to take drivers ed
2) no six month waiting period
3) you dont have to wait the required year after you get your license to drive people around

^ Well, that's in California.

From http://www.testquestionsandanswers.com/dri...ense/texas.html
QUOTE
Under TX DMV guidelines, you must be at least 16 years of age to apply for a Texas Drivers License. All applicants need to be familiar with the Texas Driver's Manual. Think you know the material? Take our DMV practice test now and test your driving knowledge.

First Time Drivers
If this is your first driver's license, you will need to apply for a Texas learners permit which requires a vision test and a written exam on traffic signs, motor vehicle laws and safe driving techniques.

Once you receive a valid learners permit, you will then need to pass a road skills test to receive a TX drivers license.

Applicants under 18 must have held a learners permit for 6 months and provide proof that you have successfully completed an approved driver education course before taking the road skills test.

So I'm assuming it's the same as Cali. Just wait til you're 18 if it's really close to your birthday.
