There was a village not far from the city, the people lived there lives happily and content until one day a disease struck the village. Many people fell sick including the parents of a young man named Ping (i made it up, forgot the name) one day in his sleep a goddess appeared to him and handed him a leafy plant and told him to pick a leaf off and boil it to and feed it to the village people.
He woke up and to his surprise, there sitting next to him was the plant from the goddess. He followed her orders and picked a leaf off and went to boil it. A new leaf grew as the old one was picked off. as time flew by, all the people regained their health and dubbed the plant as a miracle plant. The news about this miracle plant soon traveled into the palace of the greedy emperor. He thought that this plant could give him immortality so he orders soldiers to go fetch this plant.
The soldiers arrived at Ping's doorstep and ordered for the plant, Ping refused to hand over the plant therefore he was taken too along with ehte plant. the emperor saw the plant and went over to pick a leaf but as soon as he touched a leaf, spike and thorns grew from leaf pricking his hands. the emperor grew angry and took out his long sword to chop the plant into pieces, but the plant grew back to its original form.
From then on, the plant remained thorny and was called the cactus.

All I remember was something about a woman belonging to someone from the royal family. He had something that was really precious and she ate it. Then she ended up escaping to the moon.
I am not very detailed. It is one of the more popular Asian myths though. I am sure another Soompi user can or will tell you the original and detailed version.

Well, it's not exactly a fairytale, but a legend of some sort. When I was little I would cry like twice a day. (I was a pretty sensitive kid. XD) But the adults would tell me to stop crying or an old scary man by the name of Ong Ke or something would come in the middle of the night and take me away. God, that stopped my crying all right. -__- Stupid adults. But yeah. I was raised to believe that he was some freaky pedo dude, so I still get shivers when I hear his name. Which is rarely. But whatev, it's so lame. D:

Um the first story that comes to mind is the korean version of the little mermaid which is the same as the American one except in the end, the prince falls for another princess because the little mermaid can't talk and so now Ariel feels cheated and wants her voice back and to return to being a mermaid cause she hates being human. Ursula says she can have her voice back but only if all her sisters cut off their long precious hair (i guess its important to mermaids and is some kind of major sacrifice) so they all do it for her, but then Ursula says she has to do one more thing to become a mermaid again, and that is to kill the prince. If she doesn't kill the prince by midnight, she'll turn into seafoam. Well long story short, she chickens out cause she loves the prince and turns into seafoam.
Jesus and people wonder why i'm so cynical.
Another one is this one story of a guy with a huge tumor looking sack of skin hanging off his face, and he always gets teased for it. But hes a good guy and he has a brother who is evil and also has a sack of skin. But the brother is rich and he doesn't help the younger bro out cause he's mean. So the younger bro has to make a living cutting wood. Anyway, one day he stays in the forest until its too dark and he can't go back to the village cause its a long way down and its dark. So he finds a shack in the middle of nowhere and he decides to stay for the night. But he gets sort of scared so he thinks that if he starts singing it'll calm him down a little. Goblins hear his singing and come to him. They ask h im where the music comes from, and the guy being smart, tells them that it comes from his skin sack thing. So the goblins trade him lots of money to take his skin sack ( I don't even know how they magically got it off) and so the next day the guy returns to the village sack-less and rich.
The older bro finds out, and the guy is super greedy and he wants more money. So he asks the younger bro how he did it, and the younger bro tells him. So the next day, the older bro goes to the same forest and stays overnight at the shack. He starts singing and sure enough the goblins show up again. The goblins ask him where the music is coming from, and the older bro lies and says it comes from his sack. The Goblins however, aren't dumb and they're not going to be fooled twice, they tell him that they know hes lying and they've been decieved once already. In revenge for his lying, the goblins attach the sack of skin (the one they got from the younger bro the previous night) to the older bro (so now he has TWO sacks of skin on his face. gross). THE END. Guess the moral is don't be greedy and mean.

Sim Chong is about this girl with a blind father who she loves totally and is the perfect daughter too.
One day the father is walking, and falls into a ditch. A buddist monk comes by and rescues him, and he
tells Sim Chongs father that if he donates 300 bags of rice to the temple he'll be able to see.
When Sim Chong hears this she tries to do anything she can to get the rice for her father.
One day she hears of some pirates who are willing to offer 300 bags of rice for a virgin sacrifice to
the sea king. She offers herself to the pirates and they toss her in the ocean as a sacrifice.
When she meets the sea king, he's so suprised by her loyalty and love for her father that he
puts her in a flower and sends her back to the earth. When she arives there, she was found by the
emperor, who falls in love with her and makes her his queen. Sim Chong with her first act as queen
holds a huge ball for all the blind people in the land, in hopes she could find her father again.
When he comes and hears her voice, he's so suprised that he regains his sight.

Then theres the one about the woodcutter. Theres a woodcutter, and an angel
and a tiger and a rope.... or something lol. I don't really remember this one enough to tell it.
She doesn't turn into seafoam, she turns into an angel. And if she commits enough good deeds,
she can go to heaven. (also thats the original non-disney version lol, not the korean one)
