Any high school seniors here getting bombarded with college brochures every single day of the week?

I remember when I was a senior in high school, my mailbox would be flooded 24/7 by private universities trying to reel in timid high school seniors. After a while it became reallllllly annoying, yet I must admit in the end I fell for the trap. I wasted thousands at a private university that was supposed to be "great" but really wasn't tears.gif They claim their students have an upper hand at getting jobs in certain industries, when it's all lies.

I mean I know you can opt of receiving mail from them, but still. If they're going to try using lies to make students feel as though they're going to get somewhere in life...Is this even legal?

So yeaaa... if you're a high school senior getting brochure from various colleges, don't fall for it. Chances are they spend all their money working on marketing instead of using it towards education.

I'm a junior and a lot of those "no-name" colleges keep mailing me like every single day. (Some colleges are alright, but most of them I personally consider them junk or scraps of colorful paper.) I only skim through some of them since I'm already pretty sure on what colleges I am aiming to go to.

Did you go on a college visit to the school that you attend now or do thorough research online about it? Maybe you missed some real aspects of the school because you didn't tour it or research enough. Because often those pretty brochures of happy smiling college kids sitting under a sunny green campus are deceiving you into thinking their crappy college is good. x_x

you probably get mail from these 'unknown' colleges because collegeboard 'sold' or released your information to third parties... when you register for the sat/psat/whatever the cb sells, you have the option to release your information/contact so colleges who are 'interested' in you can contact you via e-mail or just plain snail mail... AFAIK...

hmm i did receive many brochures but because i requested them.. i received brochures from all the ivies and other top colleges since i requested them.... the only thing that bothers me is the spam i get from random colleges that i've never heard of before but at least my mail box isn't inundated w/ brochures that i don't care about.

As a sophomore, I'm getting a lot from colleges I've never heard of (especially private all girls liberal arts schools). I think it's from the PSATs I took which is weird cause I totally bombed my PSATs (forgot my caculator 0_0)

I wondered why I was getting random brochures from colleges I've never heard of across the country. On the PSAT and SAT, they ask if you want the Student Search Service to give out your info to colleges, so later on I just called them to take my name and email out of it.
So, I think if anyone has a problem with the brochures, they can just call...

i have a big box and bag full of brochures from everywhere from in-state universities, public out-of-state universities, overseas schools, privates, lib arts colleges, art schools to west point [o-o].

i knew what schools i was interested in applying due to researching [..and, on occasion, pure parental pressure], so i wasn't swayed into applying to all the glossy expensive schools.

it's all just propaganda.

my favorites include this cute sticker calendar from carleton :3 and amusing "comic strip" postcards from colgate. alas, i was never interested in small lib arts colleges.

I got a huge booklet from Yale. Unfortunately, it sent the booklet like two weeks before the deadline and I had already made up my mind where I wanted to go. (I'm not even like a SUPER-UNIQUE student).
