So I recently just got a cold sore, it's not the first one I have had though. How do you make sure it cures quickly? And how do we get cold sores?

Right now, I put lots of Vaseline on it, and drinking lots of water.
Is there anything else I can do to get rid of a cold sore?

I recently got a cold sore too and usually it's caused by the cold sore virus, which is normally dormant, but thing like stress, sun, cold/flus, lack of sleep and stress that could of been put on the lips could cause it to come out of that state. The best thing i can recommend using for it, that actually worked for me is abreva. It cost a lot for a small tube but it's well worth it in my opinion, since my cold sores usually take a good 2 weeks to heal this time it took me less than a week.

I hope that helps ^.^

I use Carmex it is a lip balm it keeps your lips soft and helps prevent/cure cold sores.
I really should be more active...

I have stomach ulcers and get cold sores alot. I drink lots of water and strange but true, I brush my teeth with Colgate Total toothpaste. My sores are usually gone by the 3rd day.

No I don't have braces.

And thanks for the help everyone. So far I'm still caking Vaseline on it, and drinking loads of water.

abreva used to work for me, not so much anymore.
i use a mixture of salt and water and dab it on the coldsore with a q tip. works well to dry it out and promote the healing process. mine are usually gone w/in a week when i do that!

yea, abreva would probably work the best. also use a lip moisturizer with SPF.
it takes about 10 days on average for cold sore to go away...

^ those are canker sores... and yeah i think those are worse
Alice asked the Cheshire Cat `Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?'
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where--" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat.

cold sores can be triggered from stress, fatigue, sun exposure and cold weather.

i used to get cold sores often during the winter time because of the weather
i couldn't figure it out because i wasn't stressed & i was well rested.
i googled it and found out the weather has something to do with it too
so ever since i started putting on lip balm regularly & i haven't had one since

also there are creams used to heal cold sores.
but they work the best before your cold sore is formed
i just put some on if i think i might be getting one and it keeps it at bay.

hope that helps a bit, i hate cold sores! they're embarrassing =T

Cold sore comes from a virus named Herpes Simplex Virus, the virus spread from one person to another.I find that using a facial astringent to dry out the blisters usually works. Put some astringent on some kleenex/cotton balls/anything like that, and then press and hold it to the blisters. It'll sting a little, but it dries it out, which is good.

I had something like it except it was more that my lip split and nothing I used worked on it and I mean nothing. Carmex and all that stuff. I used Blistex and it was the only thing that worked for me. My brother got a cold sore and I bought one for him and it seemed to disappear within a day or two after using it. It's really good stuff.
