Hmm, today at volunteering in the hospital i saw some kids with HOSA badges.
I asked them what it was and they said its like a medical class for people who want to be doctors...
Then I went on their site... hmm but what is it? Like is it a volunteering opportunity or a class?
If your school doesn't have it could you start it as a club?
If anyone out there's a part of Hste or hosa I'd really appreciate you filling me in! n.n

At my school, HOSA is like a organization, but we have a class called Medical Science Careers.
HOSA stands for Health Occupational Students of America. ^__^ It's super fun; we do lots of volunteer activities (not necessarily all medical related) and we do field trips, have parties, and stuff. I'm secretary of my school's HOSA organization. I'm not sure if you can start it on your own since I think you have to have a teacher sponsor? But you can always check.

♥ and in that moment, i swear we were infinite.

I was in HOSA!!!!!
LOL
I even went to the state conference and competed...and WON...fun times fun times.
At my High school ...which is in California lol...lets just say that...and I graduted in 2005...
Ok well at my former HS I was in a club called the Health Career acadmey...which was also apart of the occupation health something or other ...and what happens usually is if your inerested you can be in the club all 4 years but you have to apply every year...and I remember my class was really competetive...I had no worries...Im kinda smart lol...anyways yea its basically what you said...we got to volunteer at all the hospitals in the city...which is when your a JR in HS you get to job shadow...you know at places like Kaiser...and county hospitals...and private clinics too.
Its when your a SR that its the big time...you're actually a student that is studying to be a Medical Assistant while in HS and you have an externship...not internship...same thing but different...I had an externship at a Dr's intern office cause it was something that pertained to what I wanted to do and was interested in...it was hella fun...you learn all kinds of things...and the DR's treat you like you're a nurse lol...I got to do everything from giving injections...to doing medical charts...running perscriptions...and I was a Dr that specialized in Diabetes so I got to do a lot with insulin...fun times... lol...
I have very fond memories of my time in HS.
However HOSA is kinda different...its an organization that includes chapters from all over the country...I remember the good times when my chapter won best in California for 2 straight years...both years I was in it...good times good times lol...we worked damn hard...and we volunteered like crazy...best part was leaving school for 2 hours...hardest part is actually not wanting to leave your office.
LOL

What if our school doesn't offer HOSA? Is it possible to join anyways?
You can start the organization at your high school. read up on the website on how to expand. my friends and i started a chapter back at our high school. :]

you should talk to your school counselor or check the hosa website, it is a great organization specially if you are interested in a health care based career!! i was historian this past yr in my highschool its very exciting and i think it would look great on college applications certaintly if you are a competitor and not just a member, like i said before talk to your counselor about starting a chapter at your school from what i know you need to have a sponsor and also be enrolled in a hste course hste/hst stands for health science technology its like a prep class for (hs students) future health care professionals its more hands on than health and other science courses you learn the basics of a health career such as getting your cpr and first aid certification
I have been in hst for two yrs now as i am in a career based highschool it is a interesting course, i learned lots such as changing patient beds, doing vital signs, transporting patients, learning body anatomy and terminology used in the health care field we even intern at a local hospital and you can say we do basic stuff that the nurses or patient care asistants need help with, this goes very well with HOSA as most of their events are related to this field and the class itself feels to be specialy preparing you to be involved in HOSA
--hope it helped!

Thanks for the input guys!
I just have another question LOL.
It might sound kinda silly, but does being a part of HOSA really up your chances for getting into college? Like almost as much as playing a second instrument/being in speech/debate team?
Help please! heehee

it's just another organization. it does kinda up your chances like membership in other organizations like FFA or FTA does but not big time. however if you're an officer then that's another plus since that counts as a leadership position.
if you can found a chapter at your school, find a few sponsors, recruit lots of active members, then THAT will be a huge plus for college. that's a really big showing of leadership and organization abilities. not every kid can do that.
