imo hana yori dango wasn't even considered as a good potential drama in the eyes of directors until the phenomenal success of taiwan's meteor garden drama based off of the manga. i don't know about you guys, but i feel ever since the very first drama version of the story, the popularity never soared quite as high. F4 became so popular that they even became a singing group. even my mom owns stacks of old meteor garden CDs and photo albums. its probably because of this that i often find myself thinking that the japanese version of the drama somewhat rode off of the taiwanese idea instead of using their own japanese drama, but of course, thats just from my perspective--i can see where everyone's coming from when they say its originally japanese.
although i don't mean to act defensively in anyway about this, i do have to point it out, mainland china is also
phenomenal when it comes to drama-making. the only thing is, it doesn't usually go for the idol, soap-opera type of drama. the dramas that mainland usually makes appealed mostly to the more mature crowd until recently. the reason why china may seem a little tacky and amateur when it comes to making dramas in this type of genre... it's because china
is just beginning. these first few dramas may seem a little shakey, but im confident that mainland will eventually get the hang if they really feel they want to go in that direction with their media.
has anyone watched
Huan Zhu Ge Ge or
Qin Shen Shen Yu Meng Meng? absolutely unforgettable and breathtaking. will forever remain my favorites even after i've finished that huge pile of korean dramas.
if any country should be compared more along side of korea, it should be taiwan (altho i technically don't agree that its a country, i refuse to discuss this matter any further). the dramas, music, and entertainment shows... practically twins of each other... except i like korean stuff more. just cuz the music is more intense.

anyways--back on topic. i'd be lying if said that im hating the idea of this drama, because in fact, im quite excited for this to come out. however, not because of the plot or because i expect it to be any good, but because i feel like china's taking quite a bold step outside of the box and beginning to venture away from the security of isolation after the revolution. i feel just the fact that china is letting korean entertainment influence her is like a way for china to shake hands with korea and say "lets be friends and interact". i'd be terribly sad if there are too many people who take this the wrong way and says that its copying or something, because everyone copies each other. fact of life. deal with it.
so onto the more superficial talks... i like weichen the most out of F4 so far, just by looking at the pictures! he kind of reminds me kimbum in a way. :3 very cute. the male lead's eyebrows are a bit too thick for my liking, but i can see him potentially turning more enjoyable to look at if i get used to it from watching the drama. haha and i loove how this version goes a little bit more inspirational than love oriented... its soo chinese to do that, but i suppose it'll sprinkle a new taste into the classic F4?
