I watched B&W and the cinematography was brilliant. Very HQ. The humor was great too without being over the top and the drama was very heartbreaking. I wonder if they can get director Cai from B&W (and Meteor Garden) on Meteor Shower 2.

It is time for Wei Chen to wear hot pink. I am pretty sure Zhang Han will be forced to wear it in the future since the other three had done it.

omg im seriously falling fast in (celebrity) love with zhang han! the guy who plays murong yun hai, the main. he's so good looking and cute. the way he acts and the way he dresses and everything kiyaaa. best doumyouji ever. first time i actually like doumyouji. lessee..in the japaense one i liked matsuda shota. korean one i didn't like anyone cuz i didn't even like the drama. srsly zhang han has such nice manly features. duan mu lei isn't that bad. every1's kind of hating on him. his character's a bit annoying but i don't think he's too bad. shang guan is so cute and funny and stupid hahahaha. ye shuo is ok but i find it weird he likes yun hai's sister...a little confused. is he supposed to be akira or nishikado? lol. and the girl's a biiiit annoying right now. i'm on like ep 13 and she's like.. a bit frustrating. stuck b/w duan mu lei and yun hai. i'd go for yun hai~~ he likes her so much :3

But in China, the term "lei" is so overused. There are definitely elements in this drama considered "lei," but what some people call "lei" is also what I consider brilliant - for example, the humor in the dialogue that opponents consider "lei" but I love.

And you can't deny that the "lei" ness is something that drew in a lot of viewers...

The smiling pasta director knew that the style would get a lot of criticism. But there was nothing he could do about it. He couldn't reshoot everything and since there had to be some continuity, YHM had to keep his hair.

Still, I want a new director for the next installment. This is a high profile drama already. They should pick better directors and cinematographers. Look at the mini dramas Hunan TV produced for the the Super Girls. The quality of the filming is miles ahead of the Meteor Shower. If they could make these mini dramas in such a short time and with that much quality, I don't understand the need to hire an outside director.

I know! Super Girls mini dramas were so much more well done. And Black and White was probably one of the best produced TW dramas in a while. But at the same time, Taiwanese productions generally have better connections to backstage talent than mainland ones, and they don't have to consider relocation costs, etc.

Hunan should get a new director, though...they should get the director of Qia Tong Xue Shao Nian, my favorite drama from Hunan TV so far. And since she's Uyghur, they can add Uyghur elements to it.

no doubt Black and White was one of the best dramas that taiwan has produced. i love that drama, and caught it with it every saturday at college, when i should be getting more hwk done, lol. the ending was almost like Meteor Shower, in the terms that there were loose ends for ppl to think about. I dont' want to spam, but if vic's lover was still alive, does it mean he won't like ivy? and was mark really ivy's brother? cause if they're not, i wouldn't mind them hooking up now, lol.
i thought the director was all right, but that's prbly cause i don't watch too much of the directing, but more focus on the story.

Yeah...Meteor Shower is pretty low-budgeted compared to other high-profile Chinese dramas. Hunan TV is not rich compared to Dragon TV or Jiangsu TV, and eeMedia is a new tv division which is why I didn't mind the product placement. I wanted them to make as much money as they could so that they were assured of continuing on in the future.


Hopefully by the time they make Tiny Times, they will be rich. But I doubt they will ever have the budget of something like An Xiang. *Covets covets that furniture*

As for the movie being low budget, you can see it from them wearing the same outfits most of the time, but I can't believe it was that low...no wonder they had all those product commercial in it.

But China does use its own people in most of its dramas, and it has shown the world what it can do, it's just that this series is the only one that the world has paid attention to.

I hate to keep beating a dead horse, but the fact that this drama is popular outside of China both makes me happy and annoys me, because other Chinese dramas should be popular too. Even though it's a good drama, it is not the best modern drama of China this year, nor is it even close to being the highest budgeted one or the one with the best cinematography.

A big reason this caught so much attention is because of it's relationship with Meteor Garden. I have to agree that Chinese dramas both modern and ancient ones are underated and deserve alot more attention than it's getting.

And if it helps at all, the actress for Yunduo is actually the same age as Wei Chen (Ye Shuo) haha. Funny what hair, makeup, & wardrobe can do eh?

PoT1...wasn't that good.

I recommend My Youth, hands down. Everyone I know who's seen it loved it.
It has all the ups of Meteor Shower (minus the OST) - clever script, hot guys, cute girls, gorgeous scenery, good acting
and all the things Meteor Shower wish it had - classy yet adorable clothing, great sets, wonderful overall plot, diversity of story, and solid directing

PoT is more of a fun watch, atleast for me since it revolves around tennis. And also it's good for eye candy. Haha. But it's not really necessary to watch PoT before PoT2.

I can't think of any modern dramas at the top of my head right now, but like bright said, Who Control My Youth is also a good watch, funny and entertaining. Also at times it is pretty 傻.

I think in terms of quality 暗香 is better. Although Wang Luo Dan and Huang Xiaoming are weird to me still. But I really like the story line and the scenery is really pretty.
