I'm kind of iffy about XiaoShuang going sexy....Haoming's already pushing it, but don't ruin ZS's image, too!
But Hunan Satellite TV still maintains degrees of independence from eeMedia.
Hunan Satellite TV has never had many contract problems. Xie Na, He Jiong, Wang Han, who would want to leave?
Its other, imo better run artist management company - Nesquick, who did Ugly Wudi, has also had little problems.
It's eeMedia with all the troubles, and the person in charge of much of the mess has already left.
Although eeMedia is a master at advertising. It may not be the best method, but at this point where the Chinese at home and abroad are more than eager to bash their own artists and praise others, this is honestly one of the few methods that works.
And Long Danni has definitely not treated Yu Haoming as anything other than an investment. She has poured so much one-sided money into him that I'm jealous. I mean, come on, two MV's for the same song???

Pues... Sm is basically the one who made Kpop, with HOT. It used to be people like Seo Taji - soloists, songwriters. It probably would have developed normally, like Americans companies which pick up raw, creative talent that has what it takes to last in the industry. Everything came out of competition from SM. Sechkies was modeled after HOT, FinkL after SES. The other companies all follow his lead in some way or another because he is the most successful, and he follows a formula that is detrimental. He's made it more and more about personalities + good but not uniquely amazing singing skill. Basically what I could find from almost all members of my church choir. Now look at Kpop - all groups. Great, but groups are packaged, too dependent on the company, inherently don't scream longevity and the turnover rate in kpop is extremely high. HOT and Sechkies got replaced by DBSK and SS501. Now in the blink of an eye, it's BEAST and MBLAQ. Furthermore SM is the one who initiated going abroad at success, to countries like Japan and China. So the talented Kpop stars saw the success and followed his example - they went abroad...the soloists again left. The established talent leaves, using their honed skills in foreign lands
It's such a cookie cutter music industry now...the people are packaged, too dependent on a company, and everyone is brand spanking new, wondering what concept they need. The money spent on the idols, training them, styling them, finding concepts, furthermore puts the company into debt so that little money is left over for music. The whole thing been going down this slippery slope for some time, spurred on by the success that SM got with "packaging" over finding unique raw talents who are ready to create their own footprint, their own creative mark in the music world. It's going to crash and burn someday, but by then, I will have stopped caring.
But perhaps the way idarklight and I have been approaching this SJM thing is wrong. Our perspectives are different than others. We were both fans of SJM, and in truth, we probably still have more attachment to the SJM boys than any other new Cpop groups simply because we knew of them longer. But because after seeing exactly how SM worked, we changed and decided that we would rather spend more time and energy posting news on other boys, other Cpop people that got neglected and were almost nonexistant because no news was posted on them. And we shared our newfound opinions in logical, hopefully lucid terms so that people would see where we were coming from.
But others are not quite like us. They have very strong attachments that don't distinguish between the company and the boys, like we do. And to rip out that bias, that source of emotional happiness for many in such a raw, unapologetic way with facts about economics was cold, and probably more hurtful than productive, and I don't want to snatch away people happiness that's so dependent on their fandom. After all, when HOT disbanded, someone committed suicide. I don't get particularly attached to many idols,...so that unwavering love was not something I had factored in. But it was obviously something SM did when he created his groups. I didn't think I was being mean in my words - I never said anything against the actual members of the group. But perhaps it could have been said in a gentler way.
I realized this in this thread:
http://community.livejournal.com/omonathey...7333#t175897333
Apparently I explained myself better in there because despite essentially trying to be logical on Cfensi...it doesn't matter.
Most people don't even read our site very well - they skim, like I do with most sites and at most look at pictures. They are SJM fans...they find the site, they see the comments and they automatically think hate site. They think this Cpop stuff has been there forever, and that we've been sitting here, watching SJM come in and have hated since the beginning.
Not really. No...the site was started after finding a lot of potential in Cpop, long after having liked SJM. And then seeing that developing potential get trashed by Chinese who have their Kpop biases and attachments. Each time anything gets compared to SJM - it's always Cpop sucks; Chinese embarrass me. That's the bias all emerging Chinese boybands face. And I can't help but want to spread their news more, since everyone already knows of Han Geng and others. He's a nice guy, deserves love, but he's got it already. I want the other boys and girls in Cpop to have love too.
My site was the first I found on mainland entertainment. Beforehand...no one even knew who some of those people were. And now don't even want to particularly work on it because I really dislike the audience. They don't look at the good points of Cpop, only question why it's not as good in other areas. And never has it occurred to them what a precious thing understanding your own culture is flaws and all.
And Chinese entertainment is developing - the potential is enormous. After it becomes pervasive in the world at large, I wonder if they will regret not understanding it more in their youth, when they had the time?
And to make this more relevant:
Haoming's album packaging:

I think he's crying because people form opinions very readily, and after seeing his hair in MS, they formed hate opinions without knowing anything about the boy. Some comments at verycd for his single were appalling.
So whatever...I say, if it takes two MVs to erase the bad name that stylist gave you, then Jia You! Haoming. I guess Zhang Jie can wait for his turn at good MVs. He has lots more universal love, and I guess I'm characteristically Chinese. I always feel like protecting the underdogs...the people who don't get much attention, the people who get hated on for rumors and other insubstantial reasons.

lol, true. But it turns out that this is just another crack on eeMedia's part at soliciting attentions for Haoming's upcoming album. The latest news thatcomes out of eeMedia says that XiaoShuang's trip to Korea has been scraped because she is suspected of having contracted H1N1 and will be quarantined...........before any of you start to worry about her, an insider had already revealed beforehand that xiao shuang wouldn't be featured in the MV anyway(so basically no credibility to that H1N1 report), just another cynical attempt at engendering publicity...............
Hunan Satellite TV has never had many contract problems. Xie Na, He Jiong, Wang Han, who would want to leave?
Its other, imo better run artist management company - Nesquick, who did Ugly Wudi, has also had little problems.
Thanks so much for the info. I was getting really confused by the complex corporate structure of HunanTV and all of its affiliates/subsidiaries.
I was really pissed by eeMedia's reckless disregard for the image of its own artists. They were working hard on a phantom relationship between HanGeng and xiao shuang right after the filming of "Braving Going Forward" in Japan, only had someone from the crew to clarify on it couple of days later. HanGeng has a relatively well-established career, a nuisance it maybe to him but he can just weather it fine. But to xiao shuang such rumours may be more detrimental as she is still new to the scene. For audiences uninformed on eeMedia tactics, news as such will reflect xiao shuang in a very negative light. I heard that some of HanGeng's more radical fans were already spewing venom on her? If so, I can't help but feel sorry for xiao shuang. We all know she's down to earth, humble and has a genuinely lovely personality. And she is always careful to keep herself at an arm's length to her male costars as to evade the wrath of their fans. But in the end it's no match to eeMedia's publicity machine.........................
But now, on a second thought. These publicity stunts may be eeMedia's desperate last resort measures to promote awareness among general public about their stars. All the traditional methods had been tested and tried to no avail, a very harsh and cruel reality for chinese artists...........

Thanks so much for brushing me up on the history of Kpop. After reading this, I reckon Kpop is a victim of its own success? SKorea owes much of its recent success in revamping itself as the focal point of pop trends in SE/East Asia,
dominating even Jpop to its ruthless commercialization of pop products. But in the end of the day it's coming back to bite them. The homogenization of music products is a manifestation of myopic goals which revolve around maximizing short term gains. Commodization of music is all but inevitable when a winning formula is being replicated a thousand times...................
Very regrettable but true. Many chinese actually take pride in being fans of foreign pops/cultures, and be the first ones to show disdain for anything coming out of mainland. In my opinion they are either being ignorant, naive, pretentious, biased, or all of the aboves.
Mainland's strength lies in productions that are more middle-aged oriented and thought provoking. But it has nothing much to show for when it comes to teen/idol dramas etc, probably due to the deep-seated contempt and bias for pop culture within China's older generations. Performing in idol drama is still not being considered as real acting by the more prestigious acting academies. (it's said that xiao shuang almost gave up on her lead role in meteor shower because her professor admonished her that taking up this role might retard her progression as a real actor) But by failing to reach out to the younger audience, China is virtually conceding part of its market to foreign products and making its future generation susceptible to foreign influence. Fortunately China is awakening tp its own deficiencies and is driving at full throttle to catch up on its neighbours. That's why it's all the more crucial for people to show some understanding and openness for China's nascent pop industry, which is still at a rudimentary stage after yrs of deliberate suppression.
Poor Haoming. He almost becomes the most hated artist in China, merely for his hair. But anyway, all the best lucks for his album. ^^

It's said that ShengDa has over 1 billion USD of liquidity at its disposal and is aspired to forge itself as a "chinese disney" of some sort. First among their projects will be the remake of "HuanZhu GeGe" tv drama, and a movie titled "XingChenBian", a fantasy adventure based on its namesake novel and online game. It's been reported that ZhangHan is the most likely candidate to be cast as "ErKang"(the role that used to be portrayed by ZhouJie), and the male lead of "XingChenBian".
Some unconfirmed rumours:
1) Long Danni really likes xiao shuang and will bring her over to the new company. She will be given prominent roles in future big screen productions.
2) ShengDa holds ZhangHan in such a high regard that they will pay 30 mil RMB of "transfer fee" to eeMedia in order to sign him up. So ZhangHan may or may not be available for the filming of meteor shower 2. (oh no, they must be kidding!)
imo the first one probably has some truth to it, it's always been reported that Long Danni thinks highly of xiao shuang. But the second, hmmmm.......they must be out of their mind not casting zhang han in meteor shower 2..............beside, despite his sudden spurt in popularity, zhang han is still a newbie, a 30 mil RMB initial sunken cost is way too much and how long does it take to recoup such an investment?

In an exclusive interview with "Yule Wu Jixian"(entertainment without boundary) that was scheduled to be aired tonight(13th of Nov, Beijing Time), Zhang Han talks about his opinion on the remake of "HuanZhu GeGe", and personally recommends xiao shuang for the role of ZhiWei(the role played by Ruby Lin) because his heart got broken whenever she shed tear in meteor shower(lol, how sweet are they). But broadcasting of the edition featuring this interview has been postponed, pending further announcement.
P.S. The episode of "Bravely moving forward" which features xiao shuang and HaoMing will be aired on Sunday night, 19:30pm Beijing Time on Hunan TV.

ErKang would also be great for his image since the actor who plays it is the least liked lead of the four HZGG leads.
PS. Long Danni's not going to be the CEO, she's going to be the president (just like Wang Zhonglei!). Another Shanda person will be the CEO.
New EASY photoshoot:

Why would that harm her image? The description, albeit incredulous, painted both of them in a very sweet and cute teenage-romance light. She didn't do anything wrong in the articles, and fans should just stop hating.
eeMedia's image-painting at this current stage is perfectly fine. Since Long Danni taking over, they have yet used any of the lower methods of publicity, and has been very protective of their artists in terms of images.
Yes, there have been "rumors," but they most involve around X-liking-Y or X-hanging out with-Y or X-being-in-something, the most harmless rumors of them all.
Have you not hear poor Hu Ling and Ocean Butterfly? They staged her for a news shoot about how she's sleeping with rich guys at a bar. And then explicitly asked her to get a rich lover to sponsor her.
Or He Jie's old rumors under the other guy...news about her getting surgery or being slutty
Or how SM asked DBSK to pretend to date someone, and then hit them when they refused?
Long Danni, as far as I know, has yet to stage anything that could potentially damage any of their artists. Rumors of dating is the furtherest she has gone, and that's pretty much done with every artist. Han Geng has had way more dating rumors than Zheng Shuang, and I don't think that's a coincidence.

That picture of them reading the newspaper is adorable. They're all adorable.
And wow, it just clicked for me when you said that about Han Geng. It's an observation I had never connected with SM's marketing machine...I was wondering why Han Geng had so many relationship rumors. It's way more than the usual Chinese celebrity, and he's definitely not the most famous. Most people don't have them unless there's proof or pics or something.

I heard that Zhang Han has put himself up for the audition of ErKang, along with hundreds of other aspiring actors? His profile has been listed on the "HuanZhu Training Camp" website as one of the candidates. If true, he wants this role real bad as he's willing to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch again....................And you are right about zhou jie, it's kinda pathetic that he's had such an underwhelming acting career despite starring in the phenomenal "Huanzhu gege". Just look at how the other 3 leads' populariy had gone through the roof after the release of Huanzhu.
True. I misread the news. It only says Long's gonna to be an executive of some sort at the new company.
Xiao Shuang may look sweet in that piece of news, but to me HanGeng's been depicted as some kinda of pervert who's preying on young girls.......no wonder his fans are furious and some of them turning on xiao shuang to vent their frustration.
Didn't really care much about HunanTV before meteor shower. Sounds like they had an even messier record before Long Danni's reign. But after meteor shower I start to watch some of their shows such as "Happy Camp" and "TianTian XiangShang" and find them surprisingly good.
I think you have indeed got a point there in regard to HanGeng. His female fans always assume that it's the female artists who are gaining leverage in those rumoured affairs, but in all truth it can also be the other way around. He has nothing to lose but stands to gain everything.
And thanks so much for the Easy photo shoots. All of them look so comical, simply hilarious. In fact I like all the photos of the meteor shower cast taken by the Easy mag. The people there certainly know their stuff enough to ditch the over-the-top makeup effects, in turn accentuates the group's youthful exuberance. As-a-matter-of-factly what makes meteor shower work for me is this group of dynamic and charismatic young people. Easy mag has done a great job in capturing such an appeal. Looking at their Easy pics always bring a big grin to my face.

BTW both u and brightlight are chinese? where do u guys/gals live?
P.S. Has anyone watched this weekend's "Bravely moving forward"? The challenges in the show ain't that daunting, at least from a spectator pov, though i will definitely cringe a bit if I were to take a grab at that python. But this doesn't detract from the show's hilarity as I still laughed my head off, especially seeing how xiao shuang almost lost her sanity when it was her turn to carry the python. And I can't help but feel sorry for HaoMing once again. He is being badly misunderstood by netizens for his much maligned coiffure in meteor shower. But in real life he's such a charming, funny, and affable dude who happens to be a real gentlemen as well (very protective and caring of xiao shuang throughout the show). just hope that meteor shower 2 will do him some justice

So what I admire the most about Hunan TV is it actually offers opportunities to people from all walks of life to realize their star dreams, a break-away from old tradition where only a priviliged lot, namely people with close connections with bigshots in the showbiz, can make it. Without HunanTV, H4 will still be no-namer struggling star wannabes. And xiao shuang will probably get stuck in China's endless parade of period dramas, playing minor roles such as downtrodden maids/countryside girls etc..........................

Zheng Shuang's from the Beijing Film Institute. While it's still hard to make it big, but directors go there to scout all the time.
Think of Gong Li, Zhang Ziyi, Tang Wei. All of them came fresh from the Central Drama Academy as newbies, and were put into important roles .
Similarly, Hu Ge, Yuan Hong and Liu Shishi were all new actors when they signed with Shanghai Tangren. They all came right from college. Hu Ge was a crowd actor when the producer picked him out to be the lead of Chinese Paladin.
Hunan TV as a station is the one that I feel realizes that people would rather watch talent than fame than most, but it certainly is not alone in the mainland entertainment world. There are plenty of other TV stations, producers and directors who seek fresh talent regardless of connections and fame.

If you only just started paying attention to and watching Hunan TV, please wait a while before making judgments on how it's managed. It's also similarly not fair to all the other Chinese companies to say it's the only one that scouts new talent. This year had tons of actresses gain considerable fame, not just Zheng Shuang. Chinese entertainment is big, and has many facets.
Pictures I uploaded from the cast's trip to Japan:

This is a really nice shot of Han Geng:

And I like Wei Chen here - he looks his age.

They're from Zhu Zixiao's tieba. He also has some nice self photography of the Japan trip. Why are the dorky silly boys always so artsy with photos? He and 70 from BBFF would get along well.
