New Oricon Counting Method

Starting today, March 4, 2009, the Oricon charts have changed their method of counting singles and albums. Number of units sold would no longer be needed to be multiplied by the constant multiplier (1.75). From now on, actual sale numbers would be posted as they really are and would be updated as frequently as possible in the Oricon website.

This seems to be a good move by Oricon because it makes everything more convenient for us fans to no longer compute to actually know how much they sold that day. At least we would actually know how well they did.

"Survivor" In Oricon Ninki-Chart

"NEXT LEVEL" tops the Oricon's "Ninki-Chart" in the launch of the week. In March, "This Is The One" from Utada to score the highest. NINKI is a list that provides a forecast for the interest for new launches. 356 of 400 people said they are interested in buying the albums. Figures from Ninki can be very divergent from the final sales results, so do not have too high expectations.

The NINKI ratings are the results of a poll conducted by Oricon indicating interest in an upcoming release. Although the ratings are never a true reflection of sales, it does give a strong prediction about where the single/album will place in terms of popularity amongst the Japanese public. having said so, they are NOT an indication of how it will perform in terms of chart positioning and total sales for the week.

^ Yeah, it was pretty obvious they wouldn't beat KAT-TUN. Even if their sales are declining now, they are still one of the most powerful forces of JE. But I was expecting them to reach top 3 pr something

. GrEEEN higher than TVXQ? that was unexpected. But NIKKI had has some major mistakes in the past so I hoping for the best
