I'll tell you the tip they give me for not losing all my money in the casinos. Ready for it?
DON'T PLAY!
After John said that to me, I stopped playing and haven't been back since - it's been 2.5 years.

I'm acquaintances with a bunch of dealers too but they're not of the casino kind.
But as for gambling, I'm not much of a casino-goer insomuch as I'm more of a casino buffet squatter. In my mind, if you're going to give me chips to play with, there damn well better be a side of guacamole dip to go with it.

I went to Vegas last last weekend with my bf. It was our 1 year and it was my first time in Vegas EVER. Whenever I tell that to people their face goes

That does suck.
I was in Vegas in January 2008 to celebrate my friend's 40th birthday. The two of us were killing time in this one casino while the rest of our group were finishing up their breakfast in the hotel. We were playing these cheap 1 cent video slots and each put in just a dollar in our respective machines. He didn't win anything, but somehow I was able to parlay my single buck into $80 winnings. After I cashed in my ticket, I gave my buddy $20. Share the wealth, I thought. I still had $60 more than I had to begin with so I was happy.
But wow, for your friend to have won $2K, I would have thought she would have at least treated you and your friends to a celebratory dinner and/or drinks on her. But then again I guess some of us are different in that way.

You know what my strategy is?
When you win a big hand or whatever, walk away.
When you lose your initial amount, walk away.
My max amount is $50-$60, and I've made $40-$60 every single time except for two times, where I've lost $50-$60. Not a lot, and nothing too exciting happens, but I win a bit most of the time.
I really hate losing so once I lose, I don't go back for quite some time.

Okay seriously, here's the deal on black jack.
My mom will only play on the tables that are 20+ reasoning being, the people playing there tend to know what they're doing, the smaller tables have amatures and they tend to screw up the deck.
Basic rules on black jack:
Never split faces
double down only on 10 or 11, or low card with an Ace, but don't double if the dealer is showing a face
Do not hit if the dealer is showing a 3-6, unless you have 11 or less - DOUBLE if you have a 10 or 11
If the dealer is showing an A or 2 it's up to you what you do, but typically one person at the table has to hit.
Do not sit at the first or last seat if you don't know what you're doing - they're the anchors, they tend to know more and even out the game
You can buy insurance if the dealer has an Ace but it's not worth it unless you have 10, 20, or 11 (mind you gamblers typically call it a suckers bet).
If you get a 15 or 16 - and the dealer is showing a 7+ - good luck. I would hit because a dealer needs a hard 17 but a lot of people will stay praying that dealer will bust.
Basic rules of gambling:
Don't bring in checks, credit cards, or more cash then you plan on losing.
If you lose more than say 3 hands - then don't play at that table anymore
If you win 2 hands in a row - it's okay to double your bet, if you lose that bet - it's not like you lost money.
Set an amount for you to win - I win 200 - I leave.
Asian superstition:
Don't touch people's shoulders when they're gambling
Don't borrow money to gamble with
Don't tip the dealer until you're ready to leave
Don't count your money while you're at the table.
My mom will typically win between 500 - 5k a night at the casino, she's an old rich woman that has nothing better to do. She'll lose between 500 to 2K a night too. IF she's on a winning streak, she'll go all the time - if she's on a losing streak, she'll stop going after one or two days of losses.
I've won 1000 at a texas hold em table and 500 at a 4 card poker table. It's pure beginners luck. Let it ride is another poker game where I've won a few hundred but again - it's mostly beginners luck. There's no real strategy to those games. If you want a strategy game - go to black jack. I don't play bac or paigow, although bac is a strategy game. It's all patterned so you can observe for awhile and then gamble based on the patter, same thing with roulette.
I can find out about craps for you if you'd like but cali table games are different from vegas. In cali all table games need to have cards on the table so it's a little different.
Good luck, and don't gamble too much.
PS: I really haven't gambled in 2 years, but I used to be semi addicted - then I went on a losing streak and my friend John convinced me to stop.

when playing craps avoid the field bet, house favors but sometimes it does get pretty hot.
if table is really cold ill usually up my bets on dont pass and ride the craps and 7-out.
odds are nice to take as well if you have enough bank roll.
but give baccarat a try its pretty much the 50/50 game in casino but with a 5% cut if u bet on banker (thats where the house makes the money anyways)
