So today after my big ass lunch, I'm sitting at my desk at work reading through some boring literature on the computer as i feel my eyelids get heavier and heavier. then I start leaning my head against my arm as i'm struggling to finish the paragraph. next thing I know I'm jumping up in the chair from a phone call and it's a good 15 minutes later. My heart's racing wondering if anyone saw me with my eyes closed and passed out. After the call, I decide to close the door in the office just to be safe in case I do pass out again. I'm awaken by another call AN HOUR later as i find myself emerging from a desktop puddle of drool...

This isn't the first time i've fallen asleep on the job. I've fallen asleep while I was a filing room peon scanning documents, actually in the act of scanning by the machine. I've fallen asleep as an intern. I've even fallen asleep at meetings where some people have noticed and started laughing...

Now i know i'm not the only lazy office pinkberry that does this... I need some tips and advice as to how you guys inconspicuously get by the day while squeezing in some shut eye.... share the knowledge!

When I worked civilian jobs I would find ways to procrastinate and goof off, but never slept. But then again, I've never had an office job.
I won't bother since I won't read the rules and they won't accommodate.

yeah I almost fell asleep a few times after big lunch ...
exactly like the people in this ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ0A0xbORPU

I had to drink Moutain Dew to keep myself awake #_#

I try not to eat big lunch, besides, I'm watching my weight, don't want to get fat.

That is why I don't eat a big lunch before heading back to work either. It either makes me wanna go doodoo or feel lazy and tired. I get an hour lunch so I usually take the rest of lunch time to sleep on the couch. People at my workplace don't really care what you do with your lunch time, except for work. You're not suppose to work during your lunch time because you're not getting pay for it.

When I use to lifeguard I'd just pass out up on stand sometimes...poor little ones who couldn't swim...haha jk anyways I got lucky that no one drowned during those head noddings. Now, I just fall asleep in just about every class, but never at work because freaking people never stop coming to the pharmacy....

feel like your about to fall asleep?

GET UP and do some jumping jacks!
Or walk up and down a flight of stairs
Or do some pushups at your desk.

Well they seem to help smile.gif

But yeah I've dozed off a few mins just staring at my screen during "encoding" phases

I read your post and it reminded me of
QUOTE
Narcolepsy is a chronic sleep disorder characterized by overwhelming daytime drowsiness and sudden attacks of sleep. The condition is most characterized by Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS), in which a person experiences extreme tiredness, possibly culminating in falling asleep during the day at inappropriate times, such as at work or school. A narcoleptic will most probably experience disturbed nocturnal sleep, which is often confused with insomnia, and disorder of REM or rapid eye movement sleep. It is one of the dyssomnias.

Can't say it's ever happened to me. I don't fall asleep at work. mellow.gif

Some of you are liars tsk tsk LOL...just playing!!!
Yeah, I do it every once in a while "power nap" for like 10-15 minutes then I'm wide awake again.
Hey, if they can all go outside and SMOKE for 20 minutes at a time 7 times a day, I can take ONE 10 minute power nap!!
Not to mention twice a week after my regular job I teach college 3D courses till late~ I have a right to a power nap!

There's this one guy tho, he's just blatant and annoying about it. I mean he really kicks back in his chair
Arms behind the head and everything, snoring. Which pisses me off more, because the boss has caught him several times
But he's up the boss' ar$e so far he doesn't care. (Which is why my coworker and I are apparently doing HIS job!!)

----EDIT----
BTW!!! That same guy fell asleep in our weekly meeting today too!!!! WTF?! Seriously?!?!?!

A good sleeping routine would probably cure your problem. I broke the routine once and I ended up sleeping on the couch at work, and my boss came in and saw me dozing off. Since my job is hourly, it looked very bad. Fortunately, my boss let it go. As for lunch, I would get a big burrito from Poquito Mas. I feel better working with a full stomach than a empty one.

Seriously I think I have narcalepsy because I sleep anywhere - I sleep in the car while driving home in the middle of the day and I'm not even tired. I wake up about 20 times a night, seirously - all of those symptoms.

Ha, never going to a doctor to get diagnosed though, I have a friend that has it and she lost her license. I will not lose my license.

I once fell asleep at my old job in the mortuary.
Scared the heck out of some clients when I woke up and crawled out of the coffin, though.
Once more into the buffet

I don't know the cure.

Like you I fall asleep at work rather often. Sometimes at my desk, most of the times at meetings. This results in others laughing at me or taking a photo of me and circulating it around the office.

>_<

Oh woe is me.

Call me a workaholic or "take my job too serious" type of person (or whatever), but anyone who expects to sleep on the job should be fired immediately. I also would have no respect (both professionally and personally) for someone that lazy and half hearted about their responsibilities. I guess its a matter of principle to me. Of course there are your one offs and bad days but I'm primarily talking about people who do it habitually and without a second thought.

^I would say that mine is not out of habit, but because I work outside of normal business hours as well, logging in from home and ensuring that I attend to communications with other countries, hence why I'm sleepy sometimes during the day.

For those that purposely go to the bathroom and sleep, that is just not on.

Yeah, like that guy at my job, he just does it because he can. All out in the open, he doesn't frickin' care.
I only do it once in a while when I just can't take it anymore. Like I said, for me I work 2 jobs and don't get home till late & have to get up early!
I work 9-10 hours at my desk job, legally you're supposed to get like 2 15 minute breaks.
Break time is for you to stop with work reality for a minute, unless you take 50 million 20 minute breaks to smoke. (I'm not an anti but still WTH?! LOL)
Not that the whole break thing matters because I'm a gov contractor and they don't monitor that stuff, but I choose to power nap from time to time...
there's actually a couch in the bathrooms for that kind of stuff. But I have seen people take advantage of it...
like you go in once then come back a couple of hours later and the person is still there!!! Seriously!
