The Cure are an English rock band formed in Crawley, West Sussex in 1976.
The band has experienced several lineup changes, with frontman, vocalist,
guitarist and principal songwriter Robert Smith being the only constant member.

The Cure first began releasing music in the late 1970s with their debut album
Three Imaginary Boys (1979); this, along with several early singles, placed the
band as part of the post-punk and New Wave movements that had sprung up in the
wake of the punk rock revolution in the United Kingdom. During the early 1980s the
band's increasingly dark and tormented music helped form the Gothic rock genre.
After the release of Pornography (1982), the band's future was uncertain and Smith
was keen to move past the gloomy reputation his band had acquired. With the 1982
single "Let's Go to Bed" Smith began to inject more of a pop sensibility into the
band's music. The Cure's popularity increased as the decade wore on, especially in
the United States where the songs "Just Like Heaven", "Lovesong" and
"Friday I'm in Love" entered the Billboard Top 40 charts. By the start of the
1990s, The Cure were one of the most popular alternative rock bands in the
world, and although their profile has lessened in more recent years, they are estimated
to have sold 27 million albums as of 2004. The Cure have released thirteen studio
albums and over thirty singles during the course of their career.

I checked the official topic thread, and gasp! No thread for The Cure?

Anyone here like them? smile.gif

I'd imagine this band is a little too old for most of Soompi to know about. That of course is my assumption especially when you look at the active posts in the "Other music" section. That being said I'm not a big fan of their new stuff, I much prefer their "classic" work like Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds and The Top.

Hm, I'd suppose so ... haha. Yeah, I realize that a lot of the topics are more leaning toward the teenybopper side.
Anyways, yeah, I'm not a big fan of their new stuff either. That new album, 4:13 Dream, wasn't that great in my opinion. Slightly disappointing, if you will. But they're still amazing. (:

If you want to peak some interest you might want to compile a little information on the band (discography, youtube videos, band member information, etc.) and random pictures. Look at some of the other popular or well known bands for ideas if you need them.

Yeah, they're so good! I've only gotten into them a year ago or so, but I was honestly very pleasantly surprised by them. ^^

OMFG. The Cure is definately one of my favourite bands!

I LOVE Just Like Heaven, I always blank out when I hear this song. Everything about the song is perfect.

Robert's voice in Lullaby is brilliant. The whole eeriness of the song is made of win.

Ah, I agree. I think Just Like Heaven is one of their bests (:
& Lullaby as well. The lyrics are very interesting, and the music video is creepy. Lol.

They pretty much help me get through every day. I love their music, it just makes me feel better about everything, oddly enough.

Just showing my support for The Cure! biggrin.gif though they're not one of my favourite bands I can't deny the influence that they have had on some of the people I really admire. Plus I love the Hanging Garden.

It's always helpful to look at a groups collective work which would include their earliest work. Try to find their first album Three Imaginary Boys and their eleventh album Bloodflowers I believe both have a remastered edition out and shouldn't be too difficult to find, though you'll have to do a little foot work since The Cure doesn't fit into the standard popular culture bandwagon and most likely isn't found in your regular shops. If you have access to a vinyl (record) shop I would try to get at least Three Imaginary Boys in vinyl.

Hanging Garden is killer with its tribal yet morbid vibe.
I'm pretty partial to their true doom & gloom trilogy, meaning Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography.
Faith, in particular, is an atmospheric masterpiece with the one-two punch of All Cats Are Grey and The Funeral Party being the ultimate in gorgeous yet insanely depressing music.
