Darker skin usually occurs on areas where you are able to "fold" like knee joint or elbow joint, groin area, neck and armpits etc.
It's caused by the friction of your skin rubbing together and also by sweat.
Have your armpits always been this way?

If you can still find it, i had some helpful tips there.
But if you want to try a homemade method of whitening your pits, you can soak cloths with lemon juice and put them under armpits for 10 mins everyday.

I thought AN was a diabetic problem. Your body makes too much insulin and it shows through the skin as dark and velvety.
Anyways, there were other threads like this, and I remember lots of posts suggesting the lemon theory.

Underarm discoloration is no sweat, so it makes perfect scents a soothing roll-on mild enough for ultra-sensitive skin, effective at providing long-lasting protection and smart enough to handle uneven skin tone. So gentle, it can be used right after shaving. It dries INSTANTLY to prevent residue on skin and clothing. And that's not nonsense.
Underarm discoloration can be caused by irritating ingredients found in deodorants and antiperspirants, a predilection to eczema or diabetes (acanthosis nigricans), as well as from skin friction triggered by movement and activity. Total Nonscents ultra gentle brightening antiperspirant addresses, improves, and helps eliminate embarrassing underarm discoloration.
Aluminum Zirconium Tetra Chlorohydrex Glycine New generation antiperspirant ingredient revolutionizing odor and wetness prevention. This pioneering ingredient provides supreme effectiveness, but is demonstrably less irritating than other antiperspirant ingredients; it is less likely to plug pores and/or flare acne.
Kojic Dipalmitate Known, powerful botanical skin brightener. Kojic Dipalmitate is a preferred, more stable alternative to traditional Kojic Acid. Gently balances skin tone and helps improve skin discoloration with continued use.
Brightening delicate underarm skin can be a challenge; harsh bleaching agents can increase skin irritation resulting in even further skin darkening. When skin lies upon skin (under occlusion), it forces lightening actives (even the milder ones) more deeply into the skin, perpetuating the inflammation and discoloration cycle.
DERMAdoctor Total Nonscents ultra gentle brightening antiperspirant was specifically formulated to be a non-irritating product that over time will help balance skin tone. Any bleaching regimen, even with prescription items can take a year or longer depending on skin discoloration disparity. Please be patient.
Dermatologist Tested & Approved : Non Irritating : Allergy Tested : Fragrance Free : Dye Free : No Animal Testing

The darkness started to happen to me from shaving in my late 20's so I went and had the hair removed most everywhere. The problems stopped. It was a epi light that zapped the hair. I have olive skin so I had to be careful not to scar. The epi light was the only kind of treatment that I could do. It has been many years and I will say it was the best thing I ever did.
I still struggle with the bags or dark circles under the eyes. I haven't figured out what to do about that.
I hope this helps.

Well I kinda have the same problem.... not black armpits but pretty dark o_O
I started waxing hoping to get rid of dead skin cells..... well I can't say that it works well (cuz it's still sorta dark) but my hair grows back a lot thinner if at all O_O and I only wax like once a month now lol =) works wonders if you're trying to get rid of the hair period.
